D on Sat, C on Sun (only due to things being sold out). Gabbys in D (or E?) on Sunday. I signed up for the Friday thing but not Sat. Happy to get dinner with everyone

Seems like I've still got a month or two until I need to start working on my car again

I'm in for offsite dinner with the gang on Saturday night. I'm signed up for both days (D on Saturday because full and C on Sunday)

Sounds like we should call in a reservation!

For black bear breakfast, are you guys talking about Friday morning? I won't be there yet, but I'm not sure who all will be in town by then.

I think one of those pub type places sounds really good. My 2 cents.

Of the places G listed, I'd vote for Alvardo Street Brewery.

You've got me most interested in the ceviche wagon!! But for humanitarian purposes, Alvarado sounds good to me too. While $11 is a bit too much for poutine, it is great snackage for drinking.

Is Salinas supposed to be sketch or perceived as such?

This is a good question. What meals on what days are we trying to coordinate?

I grew up in Salinas and I'm mostly white (technically I'm half portuguese) and don't speak enough spanish to talk my way out of a bolsa de papel. So far no one has shot me so I don't see what the problem is?

I'm not going to like and say that Salinas is the greatest place on earth because its plainly has issues, but is also not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Everyone loves to make blanket statements about 'Oo, keep out of Salinas, there are gangs there and you'll get shoot" or "Stay out of the east side if you are white, or you'll get shot" or whatever, but its mostly just ignorance or perpetuating stereotypes or blatant racism. For several years I worked for a company who had their office on Williams Road in the heart of East Salinas and while there are definitely bad neighborhoods on the east side, by in large the vast majority of the people are good hard working working class family folk who are just trying to get on with their lives and move up in the world. Every town has its issues but Salinas has the added benefit of the rest of the white and affluent parts of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties looking down their noses and 'tisk, tisk"ing Salinas while they ignore their own internal issues. Its better for property values in Monterey if the media can report on the issues of "those people" who live "over there" and thank goodness we all live in Monterey!

Becides, all the bitchin' mexican food in this town is over in East Salinas or further down 101. One of my favorite little places is Taqueria Hidalgo over in Chular, its the kind of place you would never get near if you didn't know better. Protip: Hidalgo does not have a liquor license so after you place your order for a half dozen street tacos, go next door to the carniceria and get a tallboy of Modello, leave it in the bag and bring it back to Hidalgo to drink with your tacos. Best. Lunch. Ever.

Turn 12 and Baja Cantina are both car/bike themed restaurants with decent food.

http://www.turn12barandgrill.com/

Baja Cantina is just over Laureles Grade from the track (a fun drive up and then back down the hill)

http://www.carmelcantina.com/

Either would make a very excellent meetup spot, though Baja Cantina has better parking. Very popular spot during Car Week too, since the Quail is next door.

And yes, Laureles Grade is Miata territory.

I'm pretty familiar with the track these days, started as an assistant director with SCRAMP this year.

Last year Salinas had about the same number of muders as San Jose, but has a population of only 150K vs San Jose's 1M. So, statistically speaking, it's one of the less safe places to be.

OTOH, even the "less safe places to be" in California are pretty safe in the grand scheme of things.

I'm up for anything as long we can find decent parking. Moto inspired could be cool as long as the food doesn't taste like it was cooked on an engine...

After a few months of living in the central valley, I should feel right at home in Salinas!
