Lots of cats blow those things up, and I think it's just one of those things where you can mod for some reliability and maybe a better flowing intake but that's it. Tighten up the suspension and shifter and be done with it.

Corey sure seems like an OK dude in my communications with him. He was willing to tune my MS when I had it. Said he preferred the AEM but would take his time with MS and would be able to get it. Anyway, I'm funny about letting anybody work on my car at all. I'm just out of my depth on the tuning front, and the AEM software isn't as nice and straightforward as TunerStudio, so I'd like a "pro" with a dyno to do it. I'm still considering SloMo but I'm thinking about talking to Pure Tuning as well.
If you do decide to mod the speed, give me a shout -
I'm no genius, but I do know a bit about the platform, tsb's, reliability, modding, etc
btw erich on msf just busted 640whp on the platform...

I actually have mine up for sale. Not 640 on stock internals. I'm talking about people who blow up the stock engine and then claim they are unreliable. That's a different ballgame. I imagine any platform is capable of big power if you fortify the engine. :-)

I sold mine back in August and the guy I sold it to has sold it to a dealer for trade on a Fusion - He also has an msm
Oh yeah I wasn't saying he was on stock internals - He's got head work, cams, rods, and pistons
There is a guy (kmac) that's over 500 on stock internals - I'm sure he's on the way to death tho..
The gen1 cars have serious pcv issues with the motor and the turbo - if you don't figure out what's going on really early in the process of this kind of issue you are doomed for issues with that car...

But anyway -
Miata meetup? I need advice on megasquirt parts I have...looking forward to seeing someone in person..

Yeah, Mazda just sent me a letter saying they were extending the warranty coverage for the PCV / turbo thing for 70k miles. The gen 1 cars are so much better looking IMHO though.

We should do a meetup in March, btw.

Not totally sure of their abilities with megasquirt, but I've heard nothing but good things about these guys -

So they built him a 4-banger, huh? very cool.

So, if you don't mind sayin' (maybe PM me if you want) what happened to your engine? That's part of the reason I'm selling mine. I have a fear of future unreliability. I'd also like to be rid of the car payment.....

I did a miata day dyno at Paul's many years ago...I remember seeing a FM make over TWO HUNDRED WHEEL HORSEPOWER at the time - it was pretty cutting edge (I think I did 180ish). Amazing to see the progression.

yep Dan, it's Ross.

Mine's been rock solid for about a year now - means it's time for an upgrade I suppose... Considering moving my FMII to "R" status as a gift to myself for getting a promotion. It's sooo freaking awesome once your car starts and runs, and then you get all of the kinks sorted out - then eventually you start to trust your car, so you aren't always freaking out, looking at gauges and "what the hell was that sound?"...

Thrust bearing floating around in there...

Looks normal so far...

you gotta be ------- kidding me...

Heres the other half and the hole it was punched through...

Here is a short video of the crank endplay present with no thrust bearing...
