Default TxMC round 4 @ H2R results

Where to start? Crazy weekend! First i wanna thank everyone for braving the crazy heat to join us. It was great meeting new people, just wish we would have had more time to talk and check out each other's rides. Why was it cut short? Well there was a crazy brush fire that broke out just after lunch! Group 3 went out and after a lap or 2 fire was being wicked up by a strong wind. Problem was some of it went behind some neighboring houses and it was too close for comfort so the event was called. To make matters worse a few cars transponders weren't working so that was addressed before lunch, but they never had a chance to put a time down. I've been there before, last year i went from 1st to 5th because of a bad rental transponder. Didn't work during my only clean laps of the day, but i had video which confirmed i would have won unlimited. That's racing i guess.

The important part was everyone had fun till then. We actually had a nice turnout despite a couple miata not getting in because the event filled the cap of 60 cars.

In unlimited, it was great seeing Rharris again after a long hiatus. He had his built n/a motored super bannana out. Unfortunately he was sidelined due to noise violation. Then the fire broke out ending the day. Can't wait to see what a fast, light, n/a miata can do. Another contender was taken out by a flat spotted tire. ZX-TEX has some laps there and recently took the miata lap record which had stood for the last couple years with his LS1 powered miata. By the time his back-up wheels/tires showed up the fire was in full effect. Sixace and Hustler were still figuring out the track when the event was called but managed some good lap times. My car was running great in the heat which was surprising since i had cooling issues at TWS in 84* weather and we were in the 104-105* range all weekend. I did what i felt was a poor and rushed job of fabbing up ducting for my new apocaplyse bumper, but it worked great! I also changed my wing mounts, moving them back to save weight by removing a brace, add leverage, and lowered it to hopefully make it more effective whle reducing drag. It seemed to work because i have never had so much grip or had the car feel so stable ever!

In modified, miata_racer ran some quick laps despite being new to the track, and edged out his friend and newcomer to TxMC Chung Ying for the mod. class win.

street class also had a couple newcomers battling it out, with John Etkins getting the best of Dustin Che. Again i wish i could have chatted with them longer and checked out their rides. Hopefully they can join us after the summer break.

The results:

Unlimited class:

1st place: John Z. (spoolin2bars) 1:28.012 10pts.
2nd: Dan L. (sixace) 1:30.172 8pts.
3rd: Trey R. (hustler) 1:32.8 6pts.
dnf: Robert H. (rharris19) 1pts.
dnf: Mike E. (estepr1?) 1pts.
dnf: John R. (zx-tex) 1pts.
dnf: David O. (xxxx) 1pts.
dnf: Stan W. (xxxx) 1pts.

Modified class:

1st place: David H. (miata_racer) 1:33.003 10pts.
2nd: Chung Y. (xxxx) 1:33.639 8pts.

Street class:

1st place: John E. (xxxx) 1:34.982 10pts.
2nd: Dustin C. (xxxx) 1:42.833 8pts.

Some notables:

Big thanks to John Roberts. He is a member at H2R and was able to get a few of us in as guests on sunday.

It was another hot one, but we got there early and left just as the heat was passing the century mark. Hustler was able to turn a 1:30.480 despite going out on already overheated tires. I'm sure had he been able to let the car/tires cool down for a while before getting lap times he could have hit a 1:29 or better. Zxtex was able to run a 1:28. I started out by beating my personal best by a tenth with a 1:27.872, then a 1:27.498, and finally after a couple tire and susp. tweaks (along with a crank of the old boost controller) i busted out a 1:26.268. It felt really fast as i never run more than 9psi at this track or 10psi at anywhere else. I must say i think the ghetto aero is really doing something as i have never had so much grip at this track. Also, after moving my wing back on the trunk, the angle had flattened out due to the slope of the trunk and thought about adding it back but figured i should see what it feels like where it was. My first session the car felt really loose. I thought about the tires or shock settings but decided to angle the wing more like it was before. Well, all of a sudden the balance was back and it felt really stable in the spooky fast corners this track has. Really surprising what such a minor adjustment can make.

Oh, my buddy in his lexus V8 corolla was able to shave 5sec. off his personal best here! 15x9 and 10" Volk TE37's and 225 NT-01's along with Stance coilovers were the only changes. And just to kick us in the nuts, old pca buddy ran TTOD with a 1:22.xx! although it is a full on race car, it's n/a and only makes 288whp. All the viper guys were jealous. lol

Again, thanks to everyone who made it out, and i hope to see you all again in a few months!

We should run HHR again and hopefully the timing equipment will work right. I tried to follow you around, the ghetto aero is working.

It's hard to be competitive at a track that in order to run a good lap you have to back off of speed bumps or not care about tracking your car. fun track but hate trying to be the fastest there.

It's even harder when you don't go.

It's okay to be scared. It's what you do about it that separates the men from mice.

Getting to the track is hard enough on unemployment, braking transmission is out of the question.

Well I'm glad you still make it out to events instead of using it as an excuse. What's up with Harris hill and breaking tranny? Is your car super low. Besides, I thought you had a six speed. Aren't those supposed to be stronger?

it's a 5 speed, the fact that it has not broken already is a wonder to me. was going to make it out but the trailer was not ready tell 7am Saturday and wasn't driving the car as street wheels wont fit over willwoods, have to find some that will.
