the best part is 3K rpm, 2nd gear, and just letting that clutch go...

Nahh sell off the old drive train and do the fab yourself and you can do it for less than what you spend on beer in a year. So really the hard part is building the car with out beer...

the V8 roadsters sub frame makes it so much easier. i'm going to say it's worth every penny.

I dont even have a miata to begin with. I'd just find a cheap NB shell and give it to FM along with lots of money and have it magically be done for me.

I've been lurking around v8M.net a lot lately and it's getting very tempting, especially since I have an LS1/T56 in the garage from an aborted S13 swap...

I haven't had a beer in more than 2 months. It just doesn't occur to me anymore. Can't even remember the last time I had a soda. Probably the last company picnic.

What's the bottom line on LS1 engines these days?

There is a million variables in that. As a rule of thumb if you are not lucky enough to have one lying around the best way to get one is buying a crashed car and part it out. It's more work but you get money back out of it and there is a ton of parts you get for free for the build. Most guys end up with about 2500 into the engine and trans going that route.

Or you can be a total moron like me and start with a $700 Miata and a perfectly good low mile and sort of rare SLP 35th anniversary Camaro SS worth about 10 grand that has a loan on it,

then sell 7 grand worth of parts off it,

and add a little welding wire and effort,

and you end up with better mileage at 100 than it did stock...

Oh yeah there's that whole 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds too...

I am more impressed with 2500 at 100.

Or do I mean jelly, that's probably it.

I waflle back and forth almost daily on doing an ls swap or staying with the MSM drivetrain in the car and building that up... what does a low mileage msm drivetrain go for these days? Coming back to Miatas from a 427 powered C5Z is a rather torqueless experience :(

IMO the LFX is probably the best all around swap option for the Miata. For the price, performance and ease of conversion I don't think there is any power adder with more bang for the buck. It would do better in an autocross, do just as well on a small track and get better mileage than any V8 car. And truth to be told for 99% of my driving 100hp would do and it's rare I get into the over 300 hp power band.

Now that being said I know the V6 sounds good and would beat me in a lot of situations. LOL 130 hp STS Miatas can turn in better times at autocrosses than I do all the time! But as good as the LFX is it's just not the sound, feel or OMG factor of a proper 400+ hp V8...

Yeah that cone left a mark...
