I am getting really close to being ready, or at least ready enough. After more fabrication and adjusting everything is much better. I installed the manual rack and was able to shim it 1/2" higher than stock before it hit the oil pan. So that was successful.

It all hinges on the alignment early tomorrow morning. Wish me luck. I am feeling confident so I kept the hotel room.

Those &*()&* at the first place I went to jacked up the rear of the car using the rear brace tube. I did not know it because I was in the car working the brakes. It is bent now of course but should be OK.

Freakin-A. I"M IN! See all of you there. I'll be in the Dark Blue 94 with the messed up trunk lid and the engine that does not sound quite right for a Miata

Thanks for putting up with my whining. Where is the cheese?

And yes, the weather was awesome! Thanks again to John for organizing the event and taking care of the scoring, not to mention the very nice TX Miata Challenge stickers.

yeah, that track rewards tire/suspension > horsepower. that and great driving by the mod guys put them ahead despite the heavy traffic in every run group. if you were lucky enough to get a clean lap in, your times dropped significantly. i had my chance in the 3rd session, but a junk transponder kept me from getting any lap times. still wouldn't have beat colin or james but i might have done better in unlimited. even though there was alot of cars in each group, it was too hard to pull into the pit to get clear track, it was more fun to battle each other!

speaking of transponders, i got there first thing sat. morning and rented a transponder. it stopped working after my first session. they tried charging it but it didn't work, so i didn't have one sunday either (for time trial). so even if you rent one you might not be able to count on it. you can either a. buy one (best choice) or b. use a gps type timer (like traqmate, etc..) which is second best. i wanted to keep the costs down for this first year of TxMC, by allowing the use of these timing systems. which is still fine, but know that if a situation arises like this event, you might be out a trophy and season points over it. i'm sure you guys noticed the unlimited times were pretty close. especially between the winner and second place. why did hustler's 1:27.3 win? 2 reasons: 1st, he used a transponder, the same type used by sanctioned racing organizations worldwide. (amb) 2nd, the gps timer sixace used only went down to tenths, (0.1) like a traqmate. if they both had used a gps type lap timer then the one that went to hundreths or thousandths of a second (0.11 or 0.111) would have won. if there is a 2011 challenge, we will only accept amb (transponder) lap times.

i'll post up some vids, and pics i find later.

I think this is a good idea. There is only one way to insure fairness and uniformity, and that is to have one official timing system.

That'll be a bummer for those of us that can't get to a given track on a Friday night after work. There were several folks that were out in time Saturday am that were unable to get transponders because they were all gone.

Is it possible to buy a personal transponder and use it at any event with an AMB system?

Edit: OOPS - I see Spoolin' said you can buy one. Excellent.

FWIW, the Traqmate will do more than tenths - you just have to open the software and pull the times down. The in-car display seems to be limited to tenths though

As long as everyone keeps using the AMB system the transponders hold their value well. If you can find a used one you will be able to resell it for what you paid for it +/- $20 assuming it is still in good condition. The used ones do not sell for much less than the new ones.

I am borrowing one from a friend otherwise I would be up for a group buy.
