but only with earplugs in. It is a beautiful sound these transmissions, but I have never heard one quite so loud, anyone know why?

Its probably been rebuilt with some really straight/square gears. Which means lots of whine.

The car is a bat too. Made those other cars look like street cars. Wish it would show more, I was hoping it would show him passing into 1st.

Straight cut gears = immense noise, less power loss and high loads before failure. Bad effin' ***.
Hustler - is this what your V-dub sounded like?

I'd pass him.

That is unreal. Looked like a few exotics gave him a run in the acceleration department but he freakin owned every car there under braking.

What's the deal with the stock looking (late 80's datsun looking pos) car doing 40 mph he passes just before 6 minutes? How can you put that car on the track with those others? How did he end up starting so far back in the pack. That start was amazing.

That is too loud. I didn't finish watching it. It sounded like one big Eraser board scratch.

Some of the old Chevy Corvetts came with straight gear tranny's. My dad had an old 67 stingray that did. It came with a 427 434hp, 4-speed, and 4.11 gears stock. Someone rebuilt the motor to 525hp. It was wicked.

I dont think I would want that. The car was fast though.

Hustler, spur gears can be helical, as a spur gear is a helical gear with a zero degree helix angle. just to be clear on the terminology. :P

it is a bitchin movie, but I watched it with the sound all the way down, it sounded like a piccolo pete.

Yeah. With the supercar challenge I imagine a lot of drivers don't have a ton of track time in. Also the variety of speeds the cars are capable of is just plain stupid. How can you have 1:30 cars on the track with 2:00+ cars? Makes for a lot of very dangerous closing situations like that one. You don't see spec Miata running on the track with F1 cars for a reason.

When you are lapping people, that didn't spin, 2 laps in it's a dangerous situation.
