in order to do dose you cant use a bov so that the air rushes back out through the turbo and out the filter.

compressor surge wont kill the turbo, but it's still stupid. The fact that you are proud of it and/or think it's cool is beyond comprehension.

Maybe the people asking are the same idiots that ask if a BOV can be installed on N/A car, just for show.

OP is this something you look forward to be doing with your car. If so damn, please click on the log off button ASAP.

It may kill the compressor wheel though. I've heard of instances where enough surge will actually bend the fins on the wheel backwards not only slow it down. I'll be honest, I've never seen it myself or know how much damage it will do.

This may only be the case in extremely high boost applications or earlier turbos where the metalurgy wasn't as good. I'm not sure but I read it somewhere. It may be a moot point as far as we're concerned.

Either way, I would try to avoid it just on the basis that wheel speed would be reduced between shifts and spool after shifts would have more lag.

I'm guessing the "dose pipe" is just a pipe you put on the turbo inlet. Looks like they recommend a specific tuned length to resonate at the frequency of the ungodly noise.

I ran a turbo Civic for all of a couple days without a BOV... the sound was about to drive me crazy, not to mention the lag when shifting sucked.

I don't think this type of compressor surge is as damaging as "real" compressor surge, ie, running a turbo to the left of the surge line. You really have to put the wrong size turbo on your engine to run into that.

you can make that noise without any pipe. if I plug my BOV and start building boost at idle like that it'll surge all day long.

Yes, I know that. The pipe is to amplify the sound, as it will resonate at the right frequency.
