Lifecam Cinema
I just saw this webcam recently
Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD Webcam - H5D-00001 - Buy.com
Seems like it would be perfect for making in-car videos if one is already carrying a laptop. The laptop would be the DVR. The camera is small, 720p @ 30 fps, and cheap. Anybody use one?

Granted it is not streaming nearly as much data, but I am pretty sure it works the same way as the MS (I logged on that one too). The data is written to the HD continuously. Sample, write, wait. Sample, write, wait. etc etc
Plus I have been putting the Eee in a location that is not hard mounted to the chassis so there is some shock attenuation.

I have an older tablet PC with a 2.5" HD that I use as my in-car computer. It is mounted to a bracket that's bolted to the floor. Been running strong for about 4 years. I have datalogged AutoX runs, group runs through the desert, etc.
