I repeat!
Inconel safety wire on the hot-bolts. I minus whale try with the good parts I have and after all I've been through.

I wish I had never done the turbo build. I'm at $20k in and basically have a street car that I can't put on the track. If I could do it all over again, I'd just get Endyne to do an NA motor for me. I've now done 4-track events, driven really hard, gone faster than I ever thought I would, and the only problem I've had with this car is the hot-side fasteners. The car hasn't missed a beat other than one melted wire, but the damn exhaust bolts are killing me, still.

I don't have the money for a V8 swap.

Of course if I can get the bolts to stay together I will praise the turbo MO and never look back.

Well those two are spreading enough drama for everyone here to have a share. Me and any kind of car drama don't mix too well. I just like the idea of a stock V8 powertrain in a Miata. As much power as a turbo setup probably costing the same, but making the power in stock and reliable form. No transmissions exploding, no holes in blocks, no CHRA failures, no loose nuts/studs... what else would be sure to curse me if I go turbo. Though with my terrible luck, I will have problems even with a V8.

^But couldn't you have had a nasty V8 setup by now? With all of the money you have spent?

I guess since I haven't started on a turbo setup yet, I would rather go ahead and do the V8 route from the beginning. It may cost a little more initially and I may have to wait a little longer, but I think it would be worth it for me, since I don't do track duty and it would mostly be a fun street car to whoop up on unsuspecting people. I want as little post install tinkering as possible, which is why a stock form V8 sounds so nice. Maybe just a few bolt ons and then drive it.

Been there, done that. Got the T-shirt.

@NA6C-Guy: look up my welding solutions. In April I still had the turbo falling off and cooling issues. Solved during summer and now the car is rock solid and I've run more events than ever without issues.

Maybe, MAYBE if by the time I can even afford a setup, if people here have solved some of their issues and I can find solutions to all of the little issues people have been having, I may consider turbo. I don't want to have to go through a year of fixing problems to get the car to a point that I can drive it for more than 1000 miles without having to pull something off and redo everything. I want something that is going to run correctly pretty much out of the gate.

Thats it though, this is Sav's thread, I don't want to clutter it with any more of my garbage.

SAV! PICTURES!? UPDATE!?

You don't think you could have a v8 swapped miata for less than 20k?
Zx got his for 12. Add suspension, brakes, and whatever else and you're at what, 15?

Something special and high-dollar, on loan to me for these two events. I've driven these shocks in an NB and they are so far and above anything else I've ever driven it's not even funny.

$3k running '90 donor with no funky history, decent paint and a hardtop
$2k cage
$1k driver's seat/harness
$2k suspension
$1k wheels and tires
$1k brakes

$11k, and then you get to choose your power adder. High-horsepower turbo is $6k for hot parts, clutch, radiator, oil cooler, etc. plus $500 for a 6-speed plus $3000 for a donor '99 motor and forged internals.

$21k, add extras and you can get that up to $23-25k. I've always said I'd sell my car in a heartbeat for $30k.

I think that is where I will end up, somewhere around 15. Remember though, I bought mine already built. The builder, and the guy who bought it from him (and sold it to me) both sold it at a significant loss, or so they claim.

Judging from the pictures, and IIRC, Sav just added a piece of pipe to the stock brake shields for his ducting. Cheap and effective.
