Default Alfa club HPDE Sunday at PIR

Here's a horrible vid of my track day sunday. It was at Portland Raceway with the Alfa Romeo club. Ran my last session with the advanced group after running with the horribly slow intermediate group earlier.

XP8's gave up the ghost by the middle of the run. Metal to metal on the driver front. Kept running though, just braking earlier. This was my 3rd track day on them and heck rotors are only $30 right?!?

Shot this with a little digital video recorder another guy loaned me, zip tied to the visor. Damn thing focused on my dirty windshield. (that or I accidently switched it to macro zip tying it. Either way focus is for crap)

Vid is crap. Poor focus, picture quality and I get eaten up by a GT3 and a Z06. But hey! It's the only vid of my car in action I have!

Deleted first video. Uploaded it in a higher quality format. Much clearer but still not good!

Part 1

Part 2 if you can possibly stand any more... Masochist...

To anyone that actually watched that. Here is something to make up for it.

I think this could be considered dangerous...

Glad to see in car vids of any sorts.....
I hope to be in the "boosty" game in the not to distant future so I can get out of the Blue Solo run group and play with the big boys as well.
Thanks for more inspiration.

Must have something to do with the aerodynamics of an oil drum.

Better questions are what were they using to blow it up and how did it not land on anyone's head!

guru's

What in the heck is going on? I replaced the shortcut on the videos and when I click on the link it says video no longer available. It plays fine at youtube. Any hints about what I may have done wrong?

Ok. Seems to be working now.

Rusman you need to come down to PIR sometime!!! Let me know when something is going on at Pacific too.

Heel & Toe has been something I'm working on. Most shifts, but not all, I'm blipping the throttle. I have a whole shopping list of excuses though. I forgot my shoes that day too. With my usual double E's and the wide soles it's tough to do with the stock pedals. I was also bothered by the front brakes. I was metal to metal on the driver front. Took a lot of pedal effort and time to get slowed down.

Thanks for the advise though! Good observation. It is something I am aware of and working on.

Each session I try to concentrate on doing one thing better. That session it was looking further ahead on the track. Keeping my head up better and using periferal (sic- that spelling doesn't look right) vision for the current corner while looking ahead to the next.

This was the 1st time I have some way of knowing what my lap times are like. With the failing brakes when traffic wasn't an issue I turned 2- 1:36's and added a second progressively in each of the following laps. At Portland Raceway those 1:36's would put me squarely in the middle of the spec Miata's on a raceday. They have 1/2 the power but are 300lbs lighter, more experienced and a whole lot gutsier. Of course their brakes are working properly too. Look forward to next year to see how much I can reduce that. Those times would have also put me in the middle of the "tuner" class at a time attack event held at the Mazda races held here.

I need more safety gear! My little street bar isn't going to cut it should the worst happen.

Rennen Metal and Advanced Autosports both sell a throttle pedal extension that will help with heel and toe shifts tremendously w/ little thought or effort.
I trimmed mine down just a bit, and need nothing more than a slight roll of the foot at threshold braking for an easy blip and shift.
Takes practice, as with anything, but does make it easier.
Something you might look into if you need.
One plus is they are cheap, and can be back to stock w/ three screws and 5 minutes if you do not like.

Yeah. I was considering something like those. I'll look at both ofthose companies. I remember seeing one a few months ago that was advertising to spec miata guys for dirt cheap but haven't been able to find them again. Maybe it's one of those!
