Default Lotus Elan + Big Old Guy

Jay Leno owns a pretty nice Lotus Elan and put up a decent video of it the other day. I never realized how much they look like an NA miata. Impressive performance for 69' too.

wow that was awesome
lightyears ahead in 69. pop up lights, radio, electric windows, etc.

and i couldnt agree more with how big horsepower isnt everything. too many people overlook the weight of a car and the power to weight ratio

I'm so torn between love and hate with Jay Leno. Sometimes I want to see him empty an Uzi clip in his mouth and blow doritos out the back of his head (Bill Hicks), and other times I want to praise him for driving bad *** cars that most people would rather rub with a diaper.

sounds like a nasty cam profile too. lol

I think we own the last car of an era. We'll never see "light," RWD, simple cars like ours ever again. I had that much fun last night driving my car through the hills in Austin.

I feel that same way, I love the car guy in him but can't stand his show.

I couldn't agree more. Any one who owns a mix of vehicles like mclarens, vipers and y2k bikes really has some soul.

Dang, that Elan is probably even faster than 2/3's of modern cars, 1600 pounds with almost 170hp and a 9500rpm redline. Granted it cost a bit to get it from 120ish hp to 170hp, still would beat up on a lot modern convertibles.

Great video. Really makes me proud to own a car that was modeled after such an amazing vehicle. Im also split with Leno. Love his cars, and that he is a car guy, but dont like his show or his comedy.

I agree with Jay Leno. I drove a gallardo with paddles and although I'd love to own a Gallardo so I could sell it and buy a house and a green turbo miata, I think that without a doubt, the green car is more fun and I'd rather rape on the track with it.

I saw Leno at a Casino in Vegas about 10 years ago. This was in the casino, not at a show. The guy looked really bad. Gray skin and worn out and this was 10 years ago. Just plain looked unhealthy. When he isn't "up" for the camera he looked like a sorry guy to me. Just wish I had his cash and collection.
