Well...needless to say I need the rear ladder brace replaced. Mind you, this is what it looks like AFTER we bent/hammered/pounded the brade back into somewhat of a shape. In one pic you can see how far back it was bent because there is a dent in the exhaust where they decided to shake hands. The 4 large bolts that mount it to the body of the car (frontmost) were actually partially ripped out of the body. If the surface where the brace meets the body is 0* degrees, it was bent to about 40* back.

And what it should look like....

I really wish I would have gotten a picture of them when they were REALLY fucked up.

Sadly, I cannot take credit for this...all thanks can go to the Illinois DOT and their wonderful unmarked pavement projects. **** you, Illinois.

same thing happened to me, cracked my air dam in 2 places and bent my brace. 1 bolt stripped out and had to retap, john wag beat on mine with a hammer and grinder and tell it was at the point where my mid pipe doesn't rattle on it and more

there was construction and they had removed 3" of surface and in the middle of this there is a manhole that was now sticking 3" above the ground. car dropped and loading the springs from the 3" drop and hit the manhole. thought i ripped the brace off.

Damn dude, that sucks. Don't you just love how well people can fix roads. At least it wasn't anything TOO major. Our roads are about the same it sounds. Downtown Birmingham is a ******* nightmare. I bent a wheels and cut the tire on an unfinished patch job. They cut a 3'x3' square out about a foot deep and filled with gravel. Well of course the gravel isn't going to stay put. I hit the sharp edge of the hole that had about 5'' of gravel missing. I thought I hit a car pulling out in front of me. Lucky my car was still stock ride height then. If it had been now I would have ripped the whole under side of the car apart. That night I had to limp the car home on a flat. Didn't notice it was flat till about half way home.

Call the local traffic agency and complain. Maybe you can get some reimbursement.

I bet they laugh in his face. Those sorry bastards aren't going to pay for anything, no matter how clear it is that it was their fault. Unless they are different there, which I doubt.

Wow. So I called the IDOT claims department and they actually took my information and will be sending me some claims paper work. I guess i'll have to fill out where/when it happened, some pictures and estimates on getting the repairs fixed. What they'll do is take that information and verify that I was in an active construction zone (I was) and send everything to the contractors insurance company (yay). I asked if I would have needed to have an accident/incident report from the police/state patrol and was told that wouldn't make any difference. At least I can try to get stuff fixed from the people who caused it.

I'd like to find some other reports of the bump that I hit though so I can verify the exact location. So..is there anyone on here who lives in southern Illinois and uses I-64/Hwy 40 on a regular basis?

Good luck Doppley. Make sure your estimate of repairs uses the cost of a new brace!

I had a run in with shitty construction two days ago in front of my house.
They "paved" the roads using the slurry seal method, which as some of you may know sucks *** and leaves gravel everywhere.

I don't know if they had the mixture wrong or what, but it's already coming up in several places. I was going around the block on my motorcycle (at night) as I came around the turn in front of my house the back end of my bike slid out like it was on ice. luckily I was only going 10-15 MPH. My bike left skid marks for about 8 feet and I skid for about 3 feet.

Most of the damage on the bike happened to the headlight, which is really no biggie, only 35 bucks to replace. There are a couple little scratches in some other places but nothing I care about.

I'll be calling the city on Monday to see what they will do if any thing.

Thats surprising that they lifted a finger to help. I still don't have much faith in getting anything paid for though. The company will try and tell you it was perfectly fine and safe for normal cars, your car is just too small and was too low to the ground.

You could put up a CL ad or "Missed Connection" in the local weekly.

Glad to hear they at least responded.

Jeff,
Why don't you call your insurance company and ask them to have their Lawyer give the City a call?

I don't really want to get my insurance company involved. I'ts a rather grey area on me making a claim to go after someone else...and I don't want to have a claim on my history. Besides, I didn't get a LEO to come out and make a report..which could have maybe put it into my comprehensive..but as it stands if I were to do it now it would be considered a collision..and I don't want that.

Though the CL idea is good... put it in the rants&raves section.
