Default Howdy

Just thought I would say hi, I recently purchased a miata. Just on here doing some research, thought I would make an account and say, hi! Looking for a fairly modest 200whp goal.

About my car:
1993 no factory ac or power steering.
Red w/ black interior
148k miles.
completely stock and has been taken care of by its previous owner.

About me:
29 years old, I take care of servers for zappos.com I live in Louisville KY. I also have a 350z and a honda element(wifes).

I am doing some research on the greddy kit , a friend has one with very low milage long story short another guy he knew tried to run 10psi on the stock injectors ran lean and blew it up. I can get that kit w/ front mount for super cheap but I am wondering even at 400 if i am getting what I pay for with the greddy. If you wanna chime in on that go for it, if not I will be utilizing the serach function. I hate when people don't do that myself..

Some info on that kit:
rx7 intercooler with w/ all the piping
venom fuel pressure regulator
relief cuts on the manifold (which i have already read doesn't help that much according to some) but he manifold looks to be in fine shape still.

Happy motoring,

-Patrick

Jump on the Greddy for that price, that'll get you in the ballpark at least. From there getting to 200whp isn't difficult. Read the FAQ too.

The manifold and turbo are all that remain from my Greddy kit. I'm still on the original manifold too.

Welcome to our board, Patrick. A greddy kit for $400 is a steal, and it will leave you plenty of options to upgrade the way YOU want to.

Updated my location and here is a couple pictures of the car. I am doing my research on fuel management. I know I can run the kit safely at 6psi with just the fuel regulator, but I think I will go ahead and do a MS setup with bigger injectors. I just need to research it more. Also looking at cooling, the car seems temps seem to move a lot more then any car I have ever owned when driving it hard at the moment. I will go through the coolant system before I put a kit on. Doing some research on the reroute options and gathering that info. Thanks for all the replies.

Nice ride! I'm a noob like yourself trying to piece together a turbo build.

If I were you I'd definitely go with MS + Bigger injectors. This way you aren't limiting yourself later on when you want to turn up the boost (and you will... So I hear )

so an update. Been doing some basic maintenance stuff before I put the kit on. Brembo rotors and hawk hp+ pads, all new shift boots because it was sooo hot around the shifter, threw in a mazdaspeed shift bushing while i was at it.

I have been having a ball just driving it, my first convertible. In the 2 months we have owned it we have put 4k miles on it. I am going to be getting some new rims, hate the ones that are on it, and the tires are in not so great shape. I think I may just source some stock rims since winter is only a few months off.

I have the greddy kit I talked about, cool thing is it came with 2 kits. Another a friend had laying around with it from where he did some work on a friends miata. So I have 2 manifolds 2 downpipes 2 turbos. One of the turbos is not in great shape the other looks to be in great shape, both manifolds look great and the downpipes as well. Anyone interested in the extra parts? I am not a huge fan of the IC piping that comes with it so if your interested in that too let me know.

Fuel Management is going to be a haltech sprint 500 should be good to go, so I probably will not be using the fuel regulator either.

I feel like starting a build thread, but it maybe months before i pull it in the garage to actually put a turbo kit on. I am enjoying it to much in this weather lately to have it down for a weekend or two.

Welcome aboard.

Search for: "coolant reroute". That will take care of your car's cooling issues.

They are fine with heat in them not much bite without. I hit the brakes a couple time before I leave my hood and all is well.

quick update:

Haltech ecu installed!
FM happymeal installed!
greddy manfifold and turbo installed!
440 rx7 injectors installed!
new cam seals new rear main seal and new oil pan seals and gaskets.
cxraxing front mount kit installed
greddy type rs bov installed
aem wideband installed
aem boost gauge installed
speakers in the headrest installed!
purchased some bronze 6ul 15x8 rims with good tires locally they look a lot nicer then whatever was on there.

It's running great at 13.5 psi and greddy downpipe and stock exhaust minus the cat. I have purchased a 1.8 rear axles and everything, but it's a open diff. I will be putting a rx7 clutch type lsd into that.

Also need to order 3" exhaust and downpipe from artech.
Still researching a bigger intake manifold.
Will orderd a bigger fuel pump shortly
Still looking at fuel rails.
I am thinking of going with the Mercury IGN-1A coils.

Maybe time for a build thread and pictures?
