From Central NC: Introducing myself because I was told to do so.
Hello from central NC. I'll try to keep it short since I ramble.
c/n. Joined this place because I'm in the market for a na/nb style miata. I come from the nasioc.com forums (subaru) and after having sold my wrx wagon last year (and driving a boring tacoma since then), decided to go and take a serious look at what makes a fun car fun. After getting over the typical miata hangups, I realized that this car is designed for enjoyment - and nothing else. I'd buy a motorcycle for my edification, but a 4 wheel street legal gocart is safer....right lol?
I'm not new to the tuner, turbo, or mechanic scene. I'm a technogeek by trade, but love to turn a wrench for stress relief (and garden ghost peppers lol).
I'm in the best market value of a na/nb style 1.8 turbo or non and will have cash in hand in June and able to spend around $5k. I've scoured the typical cars.com/CL/etc and find that almost every one of these cars is overpriced (considering the number on the market). If I had 10k, I'd really like to go MSM (and even put up with the red color) but the conssensus seems to be that properly building your own will net you better results with the end product for cheaper. I'm still researching. I know this is a momentum car, and I'll prolly autox (and maybe a DE day at ViR) but it will be more of a drive the rural for enjoyment kind of cars and to give me something to tinker with.
Who knows where this will take me. The Mazda (miata) crowd seems to have and had before what the Subaru crowd has lost over the years and its hard to describe that funky comradery and I think its cool.
Tips on what to expect or look for are cool, and if you got something coming up for sale that isnt too far out of my reach, I'm here. If you got a truly unbeatable deal that I wont refuse - I'd get in a plane or a bus to bring it to its new home.

I dont know either.
Actually, I found this place from the searches and my own research, and didnt have any specific recommendation. A coworker on the left coast autox's these and owns a few and then more people here have lots of modified ones but nothing I've seen with boost.
Hmm... you got pics of your car? I'll pm you my email. I dont think I should have a color pref, but if I did, white is the first on my list.

I've got a black '99 I'm trying to get rid of. Mechanically/electronically it's a 10/10. Body is a 4/10. I'm planning to have the frame restoration shop fix the rusty rocker panels, and I need to redo the previous owner's shoddy hood repaint. As it sits, I'd need 4 out of it. Once I get the rocker panels/hood taken care of, I'm going to put it up on CL for 5500 firm.

Yeah, Subarus are great cars, but their following has gotten civic-tarded lately. I gave up my stage 4 cobb wrx because it was becoming to expensive to worry about and I couldnt get support around here for finding parts at a respectable price. I drive the Tacoma now due to home ownership needs, but is time to dive back into fun riding.
