Hi my name is Bobby, I'm in Ocala FL. This is only the second forum I have ever joined (first being 4.6 stroker jeep forum ) I'm 46 married with children and recently purchased a 97 miata 104k bone stock in pretty decent condition. at 46 and being a car nut I have had several different vehicles i.e. 72 k5 blazer, 80 triumph spitfire, couple c3 vettes, trans am's,stroked cherokee etc. But only 1 turbo car a 2001 audi a4 1.8t that i bought as a basket case for something to do (motor was in milk crates!lol) . love the 1.8t but hate the fwd, my second car I ever owned at 16 was the 80 spitfire loved the car hated the lack of power (earned me the dorky nickname "bahama bob"hinse the user name).my last big build was a 92 trans am convertible 355 lingenfelter roller motor tremec tko600. seriously bad a$$ car but 2008 bad economy said by to it (it was kindof a garage queen anyway). So basically im trying to mush all the cars i've been fond of into 1 this little miata but its gotta have some more HP so that's why i'm here. I really like this forum i've ghosted some over the years on different builds but alot of them seem to have a "hive mind mentality" lack of a better word, I don't see that here which is nice! I hope to be able to contribute some knowledge and insight and have several questions that i haven't found answers for yet, but i'll get to that later i've rambled enough already.

Yeah we have a very strong hive mind here. Do it the right way, the first time. Also **** bandaids.

Follow these 5 steps to properly and safely boost your miata.

1. Megasquirt 3 and a wideband O2 sensor. Budget $1000-2000 for these. Install it and learn to tune on a bone stock car.
2. Larger injectors. Flow Force or Injector Dynamics are the only 2 brands you should be looking at. Install them, then retune your MS. Budget $300-500 for these.
3. Install a stronger clutch. FM, 949Racing, and ACT are the only brands you should be looking at. Budget $350-500 for this.
4. Install an intercooler and figure out all the IC piping while naturally aspirated. Budget $200-500 for all this depending on your fab skills and what sort of IC you go with.
5. Turbo hardware. You want a quality manifold and down pipe, turbo is subjective. Budget between $1000-5000 for these parts. Brands you should be looking at are FM/Begi/TSE/MKTurbo/Artech. All make quality setups at various price points.

I'm down in Tampa. I'll be upgrading some important parts in the next few months that may be what you are looking for.

I'm planning on heading to Sebring in November if you want to come out and ride along. The 12th. There's several of us down in the Tampa Bay area if you want to head down sometime.

That sounds great, Tampa is only about 2 hours away. I should be up and running by then (stock). I just went thru all the suspension and brakes, but i'm currently on jack stands installing a new clutch,fluids, coolant reroute kit (great time for this while i can see the back of the motor and manipulate it up and down a little! haha) radiator and a complete gates racing timing belt kit. Hopefully i'll be done. I have all the stuff just need to find free time. Input on my clutch selection would be very appreciated though. originally i wasn't planning to turbo the car so I purchased an ACT/fidanza streetlite flywheel which i want to stay with for torque and drive-ability concerns. (not my first rodeo with lightweight flywheels i believe that lighter isn't always better) but the clutch set I went with is the Exedy 10805 I only plan on running a gt2554 and probably on the conservative side maybe 8 or 9 p.s.i. do you think since its not an easy task to change out i should step up to the slightly beefier ACT setup?

I'm running the ACT XTSS and have several years on it. It is strong and has good smooth engagement on the street. It requires a little more pedal effort than the super light stock pedal but my 115lb wife can do it with no issues at all. Always leave yourself room to grow as you upgrade components. You won't always be happy with 180whp.

Tampa is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from the interstate in Ocala if you don't catch an accident.
