I better start out here first if I'm to survive. I read this site on and off when I had my Miata (totalled 5/30/08 by an SUV), but now that I have another chance at a miata, I want something better than a beater to start my project. It's going to be a while until I can save up, but I have more to read here than my pathophysiology book .

I'm from the Dallas area, and I know there are a few local members here. I hope to learn a lot since I'm a complete newb at FI. I'll probably start with a Begi-S kit since I'm on a college budget. I just got my insurance money and searching constantly for a good NA. It's really tempting to buy some nice wheels and some suspension mods first, but I want to cross that frontier by learning about FI. I have a few general questions if you can kindly answer....

1. Do you guys think it's wise to start with a Megasquirt PNP and wideband O2, mess around with that, then buy the actual kit? (complete FI newb talking)
2. Does a LSD make a huge difference if I plan to boost only 6-8 psi for a while?
3. What does MAP stand for?

Yes...

Depends on what you're using the car for but...YES, torsen preferablly

Manifold Absolute Pressure...i think? basically does the same thing as your AFM but reads the pressure at the manifold instead of before it, allowing you more options for intake piping, especially once you're FI..

Good start, keep asking questions but remember to search first to try to find the answers yourself, if that fails then aask us and somebody will know the answer (hopefully)

Thanks for the help KPLAFIN. I know to search, that's why I've been reading since my accident, and didn't need to post anything. I think I'll pick up Corky's book as a starter. My car will be a daily, 90% highway miles and probably autox here and there (not much).

MAP = manifold absolute pressure
The absolute part is because it is not reading differential or 'gauge' pressure but reading the actual or 'absolute' pressure. This is important for mixture determination. Thus, at sea level, with the engine off, it reads about 14.7 psi or 100 KPa, whereas a differential gauge would read zero (regardless of altitude).

Read Corky's book, good start.

Torsens rock, I love mine. Excellent, **** quality rear end behavior IMO. My car came with one. For some reason they seem to be bad for drag racing based on some of what I have read here.

howdy... RX7 Clutch LSD for the win. It's not as good for autoX, but for drag racings and road racing it seams to be the spool of choice. I've got one sitting in my garage waiting on me to return from offshore.
