Default New from Columbia SC

Hey. My name is Ian. I'm 25 and work for a living as a machine operator.

I've purchased a 92 with 170,000 miles. I've been lurking here since my acquisition of the car in June. From what I've seen here and a little of my own research I've done a couple mods.

BEGI coolant re-route (no heater core right now)
Bigger radiator from Panic motorsports. Thanks Steve
MSPNP (just started tuning)
Innovate LC-1
ACT heavy duty clutch
F1 10lbs flywheel
AC and Pwr Steering delete (surprised by power gain)

I've also just ordered a Shanghai S1 from BEGI. Was thinking DIY intercooler but got some pretty good customer service and just went with a complete package. Kinda lame I know but I'm a sucker for good service.

I would really like to get into Autocross and maybe track. But for now the Miata is my DD aside from my bike.

Other notable cars and motorcycles I've owned just to let yall know where i come from (if you care)
75 drag camaro (built 305)

07 Mustang (385rwhp with 100 shot of n2o)

03 Sportster (chopped everything unnecessary off it LOVE to chop)

and ride

05 Kawasaki 636 (only thing I still own)

rattle can paint job my Dad and I did

I'm up for grabbin a beer, wrenching, or tearing up some backroads with anybody just lemme know. Thanks

What size turbo you go with? There are a few boosted Miatas out in the Columbia area. There are also a few down in Charleston. Steve at Panic is also a great guy. I just got back from CMP and was hanging out with them all weekend.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm going with a 2871 turbo. Got this sneaking suspicion 200hp aint gonna cut it for me.

So are you going with a genuine garrett 2871 or the chinese 2871? Honestly I am not a fan of the Begi cast manifold with anything larger then a 2560. From all the dynos I have seen and how my chinese 2870 spooled,I have not been happy. Now with a good tubular manifold the 2871 becomes a good choice.

It will be a Chinese unit. Now shuiend are you just talking about some lag or damn near undriveable? Kit hasnt shipped yet, so i could upgrade to an s4 if it would be worth it. I spoke with Corky for about an hour before ordering the kit and he kinda pushed me towards the cast manifold with the bigger turbo.

Well I had an ebay e-motor USA 2870 and on my Begi cast manifold I was hitting 15psi around 5k rpms. Switching to an Abusrdflow and Garrett 2871 I can hit 15psi at around 3600rpms. I am not sure if my chinese turbo just sucked or what. You might want to see if you can find an old used 2554 or 2560 to use and not buy a turbo from them. When I first went with my S1 kit I got a 2554 off a Nissian and sent it to them to make it worked. It saved me several hundred off the price of the kit.

shuind it was probably a combination of both.

did you also go to a bb garrett? i would completely believe the combination of that PLUS absurdfllow shaving 1400+ rpms.

OP, welcome, and i 100% appreciate the "go big or go home" notion. along those lines, you definitely seem like you're the type of person that will end up wanting the tubular manifold eventually... why spend the money twice?

LOVE the chopped up bike, btw.

did the camaro end up being fast?

Go big or go home!

Yeah Shuiend has a fair amount of experience with these turbos, as well as the 2554, I'd follow his advice if I didnt already know what I want to do.

I just can not see a old ragged out 1.6 being fun on a Begi log manifold with a Chinese 2871. I would much rather get a 2254 or 2560 and run it until you build a motor so you can actually push a bigger turbo to where it wants to be.

Wish i still had the deathtrap(sportster)

Camaro was soso. got a single plane manifold to compliment the cam and never got it runnin again. sold it to a "friend" who flipped it.

Talkin to BEGI bout doing a s4 instead. Little leary bout piecing together a kit. Figure I'll go s4 run pseudo conservative til motor goes. build motor then go big.

This is my project bike if i ever quit puttin money in the turbo fund. Motor ended up being **** so need a new one. Cant find parts for a rebuild :/

Ared - Can't send PMs yet

Whaaaaat?? I've been to Oreilleys, Advance, Pep Boys, Autozone....They all say that either 1. It's a dealer part or 2. I have to send in an axle to get it rebuilt.

I might have to drop by there today. I needs me an axle!
