Hey everyone, I'm a 21 year old mechanical engineering student at OSU. Active member of OSU's Formula SAE (we came in 2nd place at the West coast competition).My previous car was a SRT-4 swapped 2000 dodge neon, all work done by me. A couple of my firends have miatas, one in particular is a MP62 intercooled tuned on AEM 234whp thats has just been killing it in SM at the autocrosses around here.
My Mobile: I just recently purchased a 94 miata, 90,000 original miles. It came with a sebring m45 supercharger, JR header and magnaflow catback. Tokicko illuminas with ground control sleeves (however, I have Megan coilovers that I bought before I even bought the car..lol), Hard dog double diagnal roll bar, willans harnesses. Just purchased a set of 15x8 sportmaxx 002 with 205/50 falken azenis RT-615's.
Plans: I'm looking to buy megasquirt pnp, to simply have better engine management than the stupid msd sebring box. I also want to go with a water to air intercooler and bump up the boost from 5psi to 8psi. Along with 460cc injectors (perhaps slightly larger), and fuel pump, My target horsepower is 180-190whp. If my budget still allows I would like to get a seat and sparco monza wheel for autocross.

Air to air intercoolers will net you more cooling capacity and give you room to grow when you get bored with 8 lbs.
And they are cheap and have no moving parts.

I think I probably will stick with the supercharger. I think its power curve would be better suited for auto-x and I'm not trying to net crazy peak horsepower rather a broader power and torque band. As far as I've always known water to air is way more effective method for heat transfer than air to air, especially given its core size, less boost loss, and better throttle response. I liked the trackdog intercooler setup but dont want to drop $1k on an intercooler. So water to air seemed like a cool alternative..although it is a heavier setup.

I didn't think $150 for an effective air to air intercooler was a bunch of money, but if you've got a way to do it cheaper than that with a water pump, air to water intercooler, and a surge tank, more power to you.
It is, however, more difficult to be reliable with moving parts than without.
And the water-air system weighs more.

Lots of us have done the CX racing intercooler kit. 160$ shipped. just minor tools required. Welcome to the forums !

I just didn't want a kit with IC pipes going every which way with tons of bends and crap. True Water to air does wiegh more but it does have its perks as mentioned.
SBKCOCKER499: COuld you send me the link to the intercoolerkit you were refering to, I tried searching their website and found a couple for $269...but none for $160, Thanks!
