Hillclimber from NC!
Hey all!
Not a Miata owner, but am new to the world of turning left and right, and have recently been involved in SCCA SEDIV events and the wonderful world of hillclimbing (and I've already seen some familiar faces roaming this board!)
A few months ago I picked up a trainwreck of an FC RX7 that had a 383 sbc/T5 swap performed. It was a fuel/electrical/safety/suspension disaster, and I did what I could to turn it around in <2 months to make the Dragon Hillclimb in Robbinsville, NC. Needless to say, installing a bar, fixing broken suspension pieces, redoing the fuel system, changing induction pieces, and fab'ing new hydraulics was quite the ordeal when working 55+ hour work weeks on top of it.
But, with the help of some friends, I made the event and was able to finally squeeze out a timed run, albeit plagued with electrical problems, blown tires, and everything in between (which you can read about in the January issue of Sports Car Magazine!)
But, all that aside, what really drew me here were the DIY aero threads, which inspired me to really push the "unlimited" in the street unlimited class. I have already installed a DEI NASCAR COT takeoff and ABS air dam, and am in the midst of also installing a TEGRIS front splitter, incorporating many of the ideas posted by the members here.
So, if you see the slow drag racer in the retarded-looking blue RX7 covered in ABS and circle track takeoff parts roaming the southeast hillclimb and TT events, stop by and say hi!

Miater: those rear wheels are 18x9.75 with 275/35/18 A6's on them. Those wheels came with the car when I bought them, so the fronts were only 225/45/17's, which made it understeer quite a bit. In the spectator 2 turn at the last hillclimb, I blew out the sidewall of the passenger side front A6 (almost got to meet the rock wall of the adjacent cliff face to face!), and had to finish on a set of rock hard Nanking 205 street tires. Needless to say, times suffered more than a bit. :vash I will be switching to a 9.75" wheel up front also for the coming year with 275/35/17's up front to match the rear and hopefully get some front end grip when coupled with the new aero.
Gryff: Car was painted that color by the previous owner, though it does have some passenger door damage around the handle that he failed to mention in his Craigslist ad! The blue isn't bad, but at some point I will likely plastidip the car and go with the Lotus gold/black/red paint scheme. What can I say, I'm a Kimi Raikkonen fan?! Hope you can make it out to Robbinsville this coming year. Looking like at least another two events there in 2013, and they're hinting at adding another hillclimb event in the southeast in another location sometime around April.
