Smile Greetings from Portland's Hat, 94 I'm looking to boost

Hello All,

My name is Ben, I'm 29 and live in Ridgefield, WA, just north of Portland, OR. I have been competing against miatas in both autocross and club racing for the last few years. Up till this point I have been driving Volvos and BMW's mostly, but I've been a fan of the Miata for years. I picked up my first one earlier this year... needing a bit of work, but a killer deal (had been rolled on the race track).

1994 Miata (originally black), full spec miata prep w/ the sways, coilovers, fresh crate motor, cage.

So far I've done one 8 hour enduro with it (which we won!), but the power the car has is a bit lacking. Having not driven one before and being used to my Volvo, it feels like there is something wrong, but I've gotta double check compression and timing belt is in the right spot (huge dead spot from 3-4k).

Regardless... I'm here cause I'm thinking about building the car for a faster class for next year, and w/ my past experience w/ turbos, I really am thinking it would be a fun way to go w/ it.

Anyhow, not looking to ask a bunch of questions in this thread, I'm just gonna dig in and start reading... But I'll be looking for info on power holding capability of the stock block, what mods are recommended for longevity there... what kind of headers or manifolds are good for longevity in a racing type application, etc.

I've got a lot of experience w/ megasquirt, so I'm thinking about the DIYPNP from DIY Autotune.

Anyhow, looking forward to being part of the community!

Good call on starting with the MS. It's the single best upgrade and the smartest starting point on the way to boost.

Rule of thumb is that you won't start affecting reliability of the engine until around 250hp. After that you'll need stronger internals.

That's me! Its going good, getting my home garage set up as I started a new job not at the shop. Miata is tucked in and ready to be torn apart to go to the next stage!
