Honestly? Not really sure... I drive pretty hard most of the time. This is my second Miata (I had a 91 before this one). Problems seemed to start after dropping to third at around 75 on the freeway, but I've done that before... either way, compression is now crap, I now have pressure back-feeding into the oil pan, and it's definitely going to need a valve job. I'm figuring on full engine rebuild, full exhaust, while I'm at it, upgrade full drivetrain and suspension. Pretty much gut everything but the chassis. Basically, overkill to fix my problem, but I've always wanted to modify the car. This is just my excuse... The wife told me to just buy a new car. My response was: How about I just use new car money to rebuild the car I already love...

Thank you, Brain. I have already found a lot of good information on here. You guys have been doing this for a while and have already worked out a lot of the kinks that I know I'll run into. I just hope that I can learn from the issues posted here to complete a successful build.

$30k? Just read Soviet's build thread. Do all of that.

That's a good thread to read, too. Mostly as a guide for what NOT to do. If you read FaeFae's thread and Soviet's thread as a guide of "Don't do this, do THIS," you should be set.

LOL, I'll keep that in mind... I know that I'm probably budgeting more than I probably need to make my car fun, but the point is to build it to the point that it would be difficult for me to break it.

I'm lucky in that I have access to some of the best machine shops in the oil industry. They are familiar with exotic metals and have some truly awesome equipment. If inconel wasn't so damned heavy and expensive, I'd make a block out of it!

With $30k, I'd buy someone's lsx conversion if you want the power you have indicated. You could pick one up for $15-18K and then spend the rest on learning to handle the power. Or find an rx7 conversion which has a better wheelbase for the NOS.

Honestly, I have no interest in the LS conversions. If I wanted a V8, I'd buy a Camaro... The RX7 conversions look pretty interesting and I do like the rotary engines... but ultimately, I want to build it myself. There is so much more pride in your ride when you put in the work. The fact that it will be fun to drive when it is all completed is just a bonus, the real sense of accomplishment is in getting it to that point...

If you have the money, and you're into fabbing and stuff... Hop on the K24 swap bandwagon. Add boozt. Profit.

When all you have is 70s truck engines, throw a Civic engine into the mix and suddenly everyone loses their minds.
