Howdy folks,

I've got a '99 10AE. It's my daily driver of 4 years. I've taken it from 45-78k miles.

I've been planning to add boost since the day I decided to buy a Miata, but travel and work and other life **** keeps moving this project down the priority list.

I've gone so far as to pick up a wideband, Megasquirt, and an NA CAS. I wired most of it up, and planned to learn to tune the MS while naturally aspirated. Then I was going to start add turbo hardware and retune.

I never got around to it before I moved again again last year for work.

Now the car and I are in Sacramento, CA which means I have CARB issues to consider.

My goals are 180-200 rwhp. This is my only vehicle and daily driver, so reliability and some level of comfort is important.

Well, you picked the right order to do things. As far as carb legal, I am not sure, i never cared about that because any place that wont let toys come in happy meals is communist.

It's weird as I never expected to find myself here. I was born in Texas, raised mostly in Illinois, moved to Seattle a few years ago, and now I'm in Sacramento. In between is time spent in MA, DE, AZ, and a few stints around the world. I guess travel is my excuse for not finishing the Miata

It seems that down here, the hard-core use take their stuff back to stock before emissions testing. I kinda want to set and forget. When I was in Seattle, I was going to do a parallel MS install. That would give me the OBD-II I needed to pass emissions while letting a real ECU control fuel and spark. That was my rationale, at least.

I've got some questions out to BEGi, because right now, I have to admit that a CARB-legal S1/S2/S3 has some appeal. I don't know what they can support for engine management though.

18psi - good deal, Sacramento locals. So far my only connection to the local scene was when I looked into the Sacramento Area Miata Owners (SAMO) club, but from their web-site, they struck me as a wine & cheese crowd, with no gearheads. I've been goin' it solo.

That's correct: I went to a few meets and it was just not the kinda scene I'm used to. Just older folks with stock miatas talking about anything BUT making them faster.

All I care about is making my **** fast lol

I take it you did all your work yourself? I'm here in town with no garage (open apt complex parking) and the only tools are the basics rolled up in a small pouch. That and my work schedule has me thinking ... I need a mechanic.

Are you familar with any shops that you'd trust to do something like a custom turbo installation? I don't mind learning the tuning myself (I'm pretty handy with a computer), but I can't do any fabrication or any serious engine work due to lack of tools/space/experience.

I'm thinking about a BEGi kit installed by Crazy Red, though I haven't approached them yet.

I'm also still thinking about continuing down the megasquirt route in a parallel install, if I can find a path through smog testing.

My first decision, engine management.

• Megasquirt MS-I or MS-II installed in parallel (in case I move back to Washington)
• Whatever BEGi has with an EO #
• The standalone of my choice, going back to stock at emissions time *

* This option is almost a non-starter as I can't predict whether I will be in a place, with tools, and the time, to return my car to stock on schedule. I travel too much, making bulky tools and garage space a rarity.
