Default need more knowledge

just picked up a free TD04-13t that came out of a wrx (02-05 i assume) and was looking around until i hit the limit. its good to see there have already been a few of these turbos used before. no reason to go trail blazing on my first potential turbo build. I really dont know too much about turbos, but for free it at least gives a good opportunity to broaden my horizons.

the turbo itself seems to be in good enough shape hardware wise, has the vacuum chamber for the wasgate actuator and the oil and coolant lines, 2 each, although what im assuming to be the oil exit(appx. 1/2 inch) is much larger than the inlet, correct me if this is wrong or missing anything vital. theres also no play or looseness in the shaft. also, the blades spin smoothly and fairly easily so thats always a good thing.

the previous owner said there may have been a blown seal, but i was going to have it professionally checked out anyways before doing anything. there seems to be oil residue in the intake side of the compressor housing. these turbos seem to go pretty cheap anyways and i wonder if it would be worth the money rebuilding/sealing it or if i scored a sweet paperweight haha. wouldnt really be a heartbreak, you get what you pay for right?

the car itself is a black and tan 93 c-package with 192k on the odo. its lowered on GC/konis and rolling on stock daisies rattlecanned satin black (does a decent job hiding the brake dust) i also stripped and brushed the hood. tbh, too lazy to sand and polish to a mirror finish when the car has a dozen or so other body issues. what it lacks in straight body panels it makes up for in cheap reliability and fun, thats a compromise ill take every time.

back to reading every thread i find on the TD04...
