I've been lurking here long enough... I bought my '91 Miata back in March originally as a beater, but it never even got to beater status haha... Bought, parked it in the garage, and the mod bug hit me immediately. See, prior to this, I owned a '01 2.5RS Impreza...the picture story will give you an idea...but many mods and much $ later...its now gone.
I owned this:

Then I added this:

Size: 90.5 KB
Then I had a little too much fun with 300whp, which resulted in this:

Size: 184.3 KB

You'd cry if you see what it looks like now...its a shell, on dollies

I basically wrecked it November about a year and a half ago now.

The plans for the miata is a weekend car/mainly track/auto-x monster...turbo of course

My only dilemma is 1.6L vs 1.8L. My 1.6L is sounding tired.

Welcome!

Are you running stock motors, or going to build i? They both hold up to 250 well, after that you are on luck.
1.6L parts are cheaper.

1.8L has a little more displacement.

Most people will scream 1.8L. But I'm happy with my 1.6L.

If you are building a new motor forged. I would probably go 1.8L bored to 1.9L.
You can't really bore out the 1.6L much.

If you are rolling stock and on a budget. I would stick with the 1.6L. Unless a good deal came along.
Basically your choice. And what deals you run across.

and brakes, and differential, and clutch, and takes to boost better...I spent a great deal of money getting my 1.6L up to 1.8L specs, and I'm now limited by the motor. I would have no issues pushing for 275rwhp with a 1.8L, with my 1.6L I won't ever go past 230rwhp.

I'm rolling on somewhat of a budget right now, but the plan is to build a motor down the line. I was thinking, run the 1.6L until I grenade it, and go from there.

How is the 3" exhaust working on the 1.6L for you? I've heard if I'm going to run the 1.6L I shouldn't go larger than 2.5", is that hearsay? I'm compiling parts now and I'm looking at exhausts (the one from danscreation is really what I want), I'm just trying to find out - 2.5" or 3"? I dont want to have to buy two exhausts
