Default newb from the mountains of VA

Hey guys, name's Joey been playing with my 94 miata for about 4 years now. has flyin miata suspension, hawk brake pads, lightened stock flywheel, FM frame rails, borla dual exhaust, roll bar, harnesses, momo seats, fully polsihed hood etc... my wife beats it monthly on track as an instructor for NASA Mid Atlantic. car has 170k on it. we're looking for about 50 or so reliable horsepower and i figure it would be better to do a small turbo setup than dump a whole lotta monies into naturally aspirated tuning.

pics if you'd like to click on them. figured that some may like it..

some may recognize me from clubroadster cause i'm mad tyte JDM boyee and miata.net cause i'm there all the time.. HI LARS!!! the wife finally admitted we need a little more powah..

thanks for fixing the pics. this isn't my first forum and i know how to post pics, i just didn't want to clutter up everything. but meh!

i think i did drive lars away man! hahahaa. nah. he was looking forward to move away.

as for rotrex, i'm not interested in spending 4 grand on something that has a limited availability of HP increase compared to a turbo. but i still have a lot of research to do before i really make any decisions.

I'd rather see a picture than waste the time to read 1000 words

fair enough..

wife got tired of being blown away by vettes in the straights.. it is the instructor group after all.. plus, her left arm hurts from all the point-byes.

I think it is more when she is driving FLAT OUT one handed that was getting to her. HAHAHAHAHA

She needs to get a ride in ScottFW car when he gets in finished in a few months to see how a track reliable setup goes.

For now focus on getting that 99 head from Alan and get that installed.

NoVA crew in da hizzy! Hi Joey.

A Miata needs a lot more than an extra 50 hp to keep vettes from destroying it. Also, the difference between +60 hp (basic Begi S kit) and +120 hp is pretty much just an intercooler. You'll want a clutch, exhaust, fuel management, and to address the cooling system either way, but you can run 200-220 whp on stock internals and a 5-spd and shouldn't blow anything up. Basically a 2560, bigger injectors, MS, intercooler, clutch, exhaust. If that was my goal I'd look for some used FM or Begi parts in the classifieds and get some inconel turbine:mani studs so turbo not fall off.

Of course, with only 200 whp the well-driven vettes in the instructor group will still be passing her like she's chained to a stump, but at least you will buy her arm a bunch more rest between point-bys.

I was passing C5s on the track at 170rwhp and an absolutely horrendous torque curve.

You were passing other students not instructors.

I too have passed M3s, C5 and C6 vettes, a Porsche GT2, and lots of other nice hardware in the novice and intermediate run groups with my measly 100 whp. Put someone who knows what they're doing behind the wheel of those other cars and my doors get blown off. I mean, pwning rich people who can't drive is kind of fun, but I aspire to take down more worthy game.

How cheap is cheap Joey? IE is it off a wrecked car that Allen bought?

But yes MS and a wideband 02 sensor are the first steps. Talk to braineack about one if you don't want to build one yourself.
