Well after looking around and reading, I finally desided to introduce myself.

My name is Chris.

I have a 2004 Miata, which I bought march of 2007. I love the car, I cant stop driving it! But it needs something!!

Im going to start of by saying , I do not know crap about turbos. This is why im here. I know what some are thinking, " oh nice another noob that will ask before searching." This is not the case. I read everything and search through everything. Infact I may only post a few times, and only if I am stumped.

Im breaking this build up in stages. (pocket book is why)

1st. MegaSquirt II (pnp is not for my year from what I gather) (I am doing this first so I can learn the software and how to tune)

2nd. Flyin' Miata clutch Happy Meal

3rd. Turbo install! Looking for 200 hp (by this point I should know what I need and have some knowledge)

4th. exhaust / safety items

I am open to suggestions.

Howdy Chris, kind of surprised nobody has welcomed you yet. Welcome to the forum and that is a hell of a nice looking car.

A few things to get you started:
1) There are other vendors for a similar flywheel/clutch kit that will save you a lot of money. FM tends to be one of the more expensive suppliers out there.

2) If you are only planning on running 200 whp I would buy a turbo that can push the limits of the stock internals (250-275 whp). The reason I say this is that many of us built systems wanting "a little more power" and the next thing you know we bump the boost up from 5 psi to 8 psi... then 8 to 10... then 10 to 12.... then 12 to 15...

Having a slightly over sized turbo will also help with your intake temps and ping/detonation. Since you are in the south this will be critical for running an aggressive timing map in the summer.

Have fun, search/read first, read a lot of threads to get a taste for our community before you post too much this will protect you from bans.

Your plan sounds very logical. While you have an '04 and it may not apply because it's so new, I'd suggest getting any and all maintenace items up to par before anything else. So if there are any leaks or whatever, take care of that first.

CarolinaClutch for the same ACT clutch you would get from FM, but for cheaper! You may or may not want a lightweight flywheel when you go turbo. I have no experience with that yet, but it seems like a love/hate debate with the members here.

One question only: why, MSII? I think the simpler solution is to go MSI installed in parallel. I think tacking the II will be more than you can bite. I've seen it done by some members but those guys are really knowledgeable when it comes to electronics and even so they've faced some unexpected hurdles. Just my $0.02.

Thanks for the replies, and everything said is noted.
The car has only 22444 miles on it. It had 6000 when I bought it march 07. Yes I LOVE driving it.

Arkmage, you are right. Once I hit 200 I more than likely want more. Still looking into which turbo does what on the numbers/sizes.

Rafa The MegaSquirt II seemed like the way to go. But really i'm still reading up on it before I buy. I'm going to look into the MS1 piggybacked with the stock computer. I have tons of reading it seems.

But this project will not start until I am 100% sure that I am getting the right stuff.

Btw the FAQ's are great. I think I read the turbo FAQ 4 times. Some of the links are missing though.

You're on the right track when you state that you won't start your turbo project until you're 100% sure.

BTW, with regards to the MS piggybacked; I know Chad (cjernigan) doesn't have the time to make you one but he's always available to assist anyone. Use his knowledge, you wont regret it.
