Talking first post, bought turbo miata

Hey everyone, I'm Jacob and this is my first post. I'm a 20 year old college kid and I was lucky enough to buy a turbo miata from a guy for 3900 and so far so good. I've had it for 9 months and no problems. 118000 miles with a rebuilt engine, not a built engine though. FM turbo kit from 2007 so it's pretty old. It has a GT2560 turbo with 550cc RX-7 injectors, full 2.5" cat back exhaust, happy meal clutch with flywheel, and a small intercooler that I can only assume is Flyin miata. unfortunately, a body kit was put on it with 16" enkei zoku wheels and pirelli proxies r1 tires. good tires! it has momo bucket seats, 4 way seatbelts, black style bar and momo steering wheel. I know this is kind of an abnormal thing; to buy a turbo miata but I got such a good deal i certainly couldnt pass it up. It also has an FM ECU with knock sensor. I just wanted to get my car out there just to not be such a noob. Thanks for my reading! also heres a picture with the top down. I learned how to post a picture from the sticky!

It has the Hydra ECU? Or the Link? I don't know when FM started selling the hydra, but I guess either way it's not good news.

Welcome. The car looks like it needs lots of love, but at least it has some quality parts on it.

Everyone is so hard on anything that isn't a stand alone ECU. It looks like he got a pretty good starting point as far as the car and kit goes, and yeah he'll probably want to upgrade the ECU in the future but I don't think it's as bad as everyone make it out to be.

tl;dr nice car! good starting point.

Its not terrible. For an older low power setup it will probably work fine.

ive read on here for a while that everyone hates an ecu that isnt standalone. but this ecu can be tuned with data log lab and it can use a wbo2 sensor.

we "hate" on piggybacks because they are barely cheaper than a full on standalone yet are severely limited all things considered.

way better than band aids, but not as nice as standalone.

I'd ditch the style bar pronto.

Do you have some kind of submarining protection on those 4 pts? If not, those are unsafe too.

Sounds like an OK deal all-in-all. Things cost more in Canada.

Oh I see. Since I didn't buy the ecu and I bought it as is, would you recommend just staying with that ecu and get it properly tuned? I know a standalone is better but I could get it properly tuned for the amount I would pay for a standalone. And I'm not sure what you mean by subamarining but the seat belts are bolted to the style bar which is welded on.

oh wow its welded in? FAIL
Its not going to save you in an accident, that's why its not a roll bar, but a style bar. I'd get that addressed asap.

and yes if you get a good tune and are satisfied with lower power (relative to some of the cars here) there's nothing wrong with keeping the link

Agreed. The one thing worst than no bar is a style bar hands down.
