It's easy, just do a lot of research and plan everything out. Don't go cheap unless you really know what you are doing. Profit.

Do you have any experience with turbo setups at all? Have you looked into anything so far that's caught your interest? Also, what kind of power goals are you hoping to reach?

actually none at all...
i just want a little more power..
and my goal is only to run around 7-8 psi with NO PROBLEM at all...
just a little power to go around...
would turbo be better or SC?
and which one would be a cheaper route?
for 7-8 psi with as little money as possible..
and where i dont have to change the suspension or clutch or wheels or bigger brakes..
what you think?

and this is what i got so far...
1.6l Turbo manifold, downpipe, and TD05-16G (sm) turbocharger

this is what the guy post when i bought it from him:

Bog standard eBay turbo kit, manifold/DP were purchased from CX Racing, who have a good reputation among the mturbo community. These parts are unused, they were bolted up to my engine for about a month while I worked on other aspects of the car. Then I found a too good to pass up deal on FM3 turbo parts and pulled this stuff off.
The turbo manifold has relief cuts between the runners, FM style, to prevent cracking. The #4 runner is tapped for an EGT probe, if you don't/won't run an EGT gauge then it can just be blocked with a bolt. The downpipe has a secondary O2 bung/cap welded in for a wideband o2 gauge. The turbo is also unused, from CX racing. Oil/water cooled. It has been "clocked" which means turning the coldside of the turbo so that the outlet faces down, making intercooler pipe routing easier. 10-12psi internal wastegate. I am including an adapter I made for the outlet that allows you to use standard silicon couplers.

what you think?
and what am i missing to make it work???
thanks

Well your turbo kit is pretty garbage. I'm guessing that's the ss autochrome special, which is prone to cracking and not worth the $$ at all. I'm hoping you didn't spend much on it.

As far as supercharger or turbo, you are going to need a new clutch. Also, the 93 1.6L differential is notorious for breaking on stock power, so plan on getting a 1.8 rear diff, drive shaft, and axles. In terms or what is better (SC or Turbo), that's really up to you to decide. Our car works very well with the turbo setup, and yields great power from boost of any kind. Personally I would do turbo on the miata.

SO what you need to get that turbo kit running. Well, you need engine management because it's going to boost at least 10 psi, and knowing those 16g knock off turbo's, it actually realistically has a 14psi waste gate on it. So if you don't have proper engine management, a proper tune, and the right fuel setup, you're going to blow things up quick. You also need a front mount intercooler (or an air to water). Now in the ad you have, it says the turbo is clocked down for easier installation. This is great, unless you have power steering in the way, or the typical coolant hose down there. You might have to spend some time thinking about how you want to route stuff.

So this is what you should be spending to get it to work:
Engine Management: $500
Clutch: $200 ish
Rear Differential + bits : $500ish, maybe more, maybe les
Injectors: $100
Wide Band o2: $200
Intercooler: $200
Paying someone to tune it: $200

So that's $1900 without install, and you're doing it on a horrible manifold and downpipe which will probably break. Plus you have to pay someone to install those things if you don't feel up to doing it yourself. There's also lots of other little bits that go into it, oil feed, oil return (drilling & tapping the pan), various hoses.

It is ok to turbo. I would really get a manifold though, Charlie. The turbo is probably fine. There is nothing wrong with a china turbo. You should really start with engine management and work from there though, so you aren't crying on the side of the road over your burnt up pistons.
