Default My new blue '92

Not new to forums, not new to all of this. I have looked around on this site a bit, and noticed a lot of douches, can't wait to meet some. Prior to this I have spent a lot of time on rx7club.com and nopistons.com, when i got stationed in Colorado Springs I got into Jeeps and a lot of the forums on there.

Throughout the last few years I have had a few builds, mostly Honda's because they are cheap and easy (not ricer Honda's, more along the lines of SC'd H22 swaps into a Del Sol, etc). Spent a lot of time around DSMs (my old roommate has a 97 TSi running 10.2 @ 6,000ft and about 39psi). I have owned more RX7's than I can remember.

A few years back I owned a 91 BRG and loved it. Did basic intake/exhaust and thats about it, and drove the hell out of it on back mountain roads.

I recently decided to get back into the Miata scene and perhaps built a little better/smarter than I did back when I was freshly into cars.

My goal with this build is mild hp gains, joined up on here to do some research as to which route I want to take. I have been thinking of either a simple FM or BEGi kit, or perhaps piecing one together with a 14b or something similar. Not looking for major power, just enough to keep it fun.

More so planning on building a car thats a fun to drive DD. More or less a fun cruiser, and something to dick off with when I feel like, nothing crazy.

I am currently deployed, should be getting back in Jan. Just last week had my previously mentioned roommate pick me up a steal I found on CL. Found a 92 blue NA6 for $1500 and talked the guy down to $1300. 100% stock, older gentleman bought it new, car has about 180k but only about 40k on a full rebuild (engine, tranny, rear end).

As for now, I see some Megan Streets, and some XXR 502's in 15x8's in my near future. As far as any other power mods, I will need to figure out if I decide to keep it n/a or switch it to FI, likely FI will come, the question is when.

I am mainly on CR.net, but decided to give this place a shot.

Damn you stole that thing. And howdy from CoSpgs. CO plates on the car, I didn't even see it on CL and I'm all over that looking for deals. How long have you been gone from here?

Was that 10sec DSM up here in CoSpgs/Denver? Guessing yes due to the elevation. Just curious as I bailed on DSMs to go Miata.

This car is currently in the Springs actually. I was up there for 4 years. Then PCS'd to Texas. While on this deployment I found this on CL, i was hunting HARD, it was only up for 2 hours before someone flagged it.

This car is up on north powers, and yes, the DSM is in the Springs as well, 10sec was ran at Bandamier (sp?) in denver, and I believe a high 10 was run down at Pueblo. He is on Carson as well, black 50AE Z06 as a DD.

I got lucky when I found it, called him up, and he ditched work and drove to Denver for me to pick it up haha. So now when I get back I will be heading up there via plane one friday night, and driving back down early early sunday morning. Hope to spend all day saturday doing some mods that are going to stack up :-)

I don't suppose your friend is Joe F. is it? If not there are two Army locals with really quick DSMs and Z06 dd's lol.

Glad you were able to snag it before I saw it

Haha, you would be correct sir! How do you know Joe? He was my PSG up there at Carson for a while, and has to be about the best friend a man could ask for haha. Looks like you already have a "blue 92"… share the wealth! Joe will be holding onto it until I get back, then will be doing a bit of work the weekend I come up to get it, I will have to hit you up when I get up there.

I know him through Jacks Transmissions and some local DSM boards. Yeah hit me up when you grab your car, and I'll help you with the installs too if needed.

Ah, I met Jack a few times, havnt had any work don't by him, though went up there when Joe has shredded this or that in his tranny… Im not thinking there will be too much to install, likely some Megan Streets and some new wheels/tires, simple stuff… So I mentioned you to Joe, and he asked something about a 4G63 swap?

Not really a 4g swap but using some related components. I'm running the Miata in speed density on an ecu and engine harness from a Galant VR4, managed with ECMLink V3, and a few other mitsu bits including the turbo.

Thats good ****, i was REALLY curious as to how a FWD/AWD motor would fit into a RWD car… seemed like some damn good creativity. I was actually thinking of piecing together a kit using either a 14b or 16g, seemed like a good, cheap, reliable and easy to find turbo. Seems like it would be a great easy spooling option for an engine as small as the 1.6 as well. Any reason why you chose the 16G over the 14B? Obviously for DSM's the 16G is an obvious upgrade, but on low boost, would the 14B be just as effective? Minus slightly less airflow, but faster spooling

I had the 16g on a shelf lol. I did consider a 14b and could have picked up a good one for $50 before the install but since I had the 16g and I was watching my budget I went with it. Easy enough to toss on a 14b in the future if I want to compare. Even thought about a Big T28, since it would be somewhere in the middle size wise, would spool quicker and flow enough to get me my goal (225whp). Only drawback with Mitsu flanged turbos is that there are no good quality manifolds available off the shelf. I have a fleabay mani, but am saving for a custom from ARTech (vendor here).

You can use a 4g in a RWD configuration if you have a 4g64 block and trans from a Mighty Max truck, or a 4g63 will work with a bellhousing adapter and a Lexus SC300 5 speed (same as a Supra maybe?). I've been talking to a guy in the Northeast who is doing this right now. He just got his up and running on a DSM ecu as well.

For some great pics and info on the first guy to do this DSM ecu swap (underdog here on MT.net) check out this site: http://miata.turbomirage.com/ He's got some fun cars.
