Default Decided to formally introduce myself..

Whats up everybody, joined a while ago actually but I finally decided to introduce my self. I dont have a Miata but its at least its Miata powered Its a 95 Ford Escort LX with a BP swap and lots of other mods.

Longtime member of feoa.net and clubprotege.com

I am here for the MS knowledge since I am a noob at tuning and just got my MS 1 a few weeks ago. Hopefully I can contribute something back to the community eventually.

I will try to get some pics up later tonight and a full mod list if anyone is interested.

I am actually planning to just upgrade this unit to a MS3 in a few months.

Are you saying all this requires a bunch of rewiring? I was under the impression it was a couple of jumpers and then just plug the daughter board kit in, then change some settings in tunerstudio/load maps?

Key differences
Almost all other settings are somewhat different between MS1/Extra and Megasquirt-3.
The wheel decoder now requires a single "Tooth #1 angle" and automatically calculates the triggers itself and enables the required number of spark outputs depending on how many cylinders you have and your selection of single coil, wasted spark, coil-on-plug or dual-dizzy.
Spark A,B,C are available on the LEDs (not FIDLE)
Sparks D,E,F have moved
Launch pins are different
Nitrous pins are different and the wiring method has changed
Water injection is different
3 stage shift lights different
Spare ADCs the same.
12V power feed to the chip to enable the stepper driver (Caution! Do not refit the Megasquirt-1 CPU with the 12V feed in place.)

Whether you imported a VE table or not, you now must go through all settings to configure for your engine. e.g. number of cylinders, ReqFuel, ignition triggering, spark and fuel hardware in use.

Last time someone upgraded an ms1 into ms3 even the box was discarded because nothing fit in it.

I just did this and haven't quite figured it out yet. The documentation is very limited. It also depends on how you wired your ms1. It is in theory a couple changes. I haven't tested my board but ultimately what i've done should work and it was hardly anything. You do need to buy ms3 processor, new case. If you plan on using sequential and things ms3x, then you need ms3x wiring harness.

This is a Stratified Auto PNP unit built for an Escort GT. I paid $250 shipped for it and after pricing stuff out, its almost the same price to sell this and buy a full MS3+MS3X+cables +BOB to make in PNP -vs- just buying the daughter board+MS3X+cables and reusing the ND 76 pin on this unit.

I am willing to give it a shot and I am sure I should be able to get the wiring documentation for it from the company.

Sequential is the plan along with ditching the distributor and using a miata coil for waste spark or COP's, and speaking of this I have some questions about that but I better start a new thread.....
