I'm going to go ahead and say if it's anything like my rx7 diff, you will need a miata pinion and pinion housing.

your gonna need to find a solution to mount to the axles and driveshaft but this is how to mount the diff. your going to need to find a way to support the back of the miata trans as well..

If the car is putting down less than 250whp i would be looking for another miata diff. trust me. its going to be much less of a headache.

lolwut?

The "back half" of the na rx7 diff is essentially the same. You'll need miata bushings and to read the threads posted to figure out which axles to run.

The "front half" or pumpkin housing is totally different. You can run the actual rx7 differential unit, but will need to get a miata pumpkin housing.

yank & tasty are talking about the 8" vs. the 7" - or turbo RX7 vs. the NA RX7. IMO the OP needs to find a 1.8 Miata rear, axles and shafts to do the swap. The only thing usable on the NA RX7 chunk is the ring gear and the housing (which still needs bushings).

He clearly said he had a na diff so I don't know how that became part of the discussion. But cupcar is correct, except you can use the Rx7 differential itself as well. Though I'm not sure if any 2nd gen na Rx7s got a diff worth a damn.

The NA rx7s had open diffs like the Miata or a clutch type (rebuildable) LSD that will drop into a 1.8 rear.

Quote worthy.

That aluminum housing on the RX7 diff is worth at least $50.
