Default Maybe looking into MS. Padawan needs guidance.

The E-Manage route has been good to me, but I feel I'm missing out by not jumping on the MS bandwagon.

If I did it, i would be looking into the MSPNP, and I would upgrade my injectors at the same time.

Cost is a bit of an issue, so i open the floor to some opinions. How much do you think i could recoup by selling my emanage setup? I have the blue with both harnesses and factory connection cable, an olderguy autotune, a vortech with an 8:1 disk and a 6:1 disk (extra), a Walbro 190HP (would i need this to go MS?), and a good set of 1.8 tantops.

Finally, those of you who have made the switch, do you regret it in any way? How is driveability and ease of tuning. I was very underwhelmed by the GReddy Support Tool. The Megatune software looks quite a bit more sophisticated, but I'm also a bit of a newbie. How steep is the learning curve?

Thanks guys.

Megatune is very, very easy to use, but at the same time it's extremely powerful. I would download it now and fiddle around with someone else's MSQ so you can see what some of the settings look like. With the MSPNP, a lot of the harder-to-understand settings are already done up for you, but you'll still have to (be able?) to fiddle with things like cranking pulsewidths, acceleration enrichments, and all the normal stuff like VE and spark tables, boost control duty cycles, etc. It took me about 4 or 5 weekends of fiddling with it, and now I feel like, given enough time and someone else's credit card, I could tune my car from scratch on a dyno.

I don't regret the swap at all. There were a few quirks, but the amount of control cannot be touched. Order it with the 4-bar MAP sensor and the EBC, and delete your MAF sensor at the same time.

Yeah, I would definitely want to go ahead and remove the AFM. I've been doing more reading. I think I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge. I'm going to try to get rid of a few of my old items first though. Afterall, the car isn't going anywhere.

I've switched back and forth a few times... Right now I have one car running the MS, and two with the EMB's, plus one with the Profec E-01 (and that is the cats a$$--for what it is). I ditched MS the first time, the steep learning curve and time commitment was more than I had time for (and the three sets of coils). (I still regret not buying a Link)
I'm still struggling with some hardware issues on the MS, but once I can commit some time I'll get it right. Time is more of a premium to me now then it was a year or two ago. The EMB does all you need it to up til 14 psi or so, if you're planning on more than that, then you'll really want a SA. I have no plans to remove the EMB from my P5 (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

If I get the 94 car w/ MS working well, I'll probably add MS to the 96(again).

I needed a SA for the 94 because I have some crazy ideas running through my head (plus I have all the parts collected)... and while it won't be the cheapest set up, it maybe only one of two or three running around...

The MS is worth mastering if you can afford to spend the time. This forum is excellent in supporting folks on their transition. (The msefi board is alot larger and too much like m.net--good place to search, but don't ask a question)

As for the EMB worth, it'll catch more on evilbay then here.

Depending upon how your tables in EMB are setup, they would similar to MS, (decreasing timing under boost, increasing fuel). But that's where it ends. It only takes an hour or two to install the EMB (soldering it in), get the software running, and then you just drive it, datalog--very easy in EMB and adjust and drive it again. I've read that MS is the same but I'm still trying to get to that point...

Yeah, but the datalogging in the EMB is basically a bad joke, from my experience. Thanks for the detailed breakdown though.

Yes, I have to agree the basics are pretty sad, but with the Profec you can datalog for Hours (depending upon your SD card size) and of course datalogging the WBo2 through the EMB at the same time.

Well, it's ordered. The site says something about there being a shipping delay? No matter. I'm waiting on a set of 550cc injectors in the mail as it is.

Exciting times.

I wanna add a question.. How reliable has MS been for everyone that built a DIY setup?

The MS system is reliable as you build it. If you build it like poorly, it's going to have poor reliability. Your MS system will be as weak as your crappiest solder joint or wire crimp.

i consider myself a major DIY'er. Hell, I remodeled my own house from the ground up, installed the turbo system on my miata, I have never taken a car to a mechanic in my entire life, etc. etc.

But I know my limitations, and soldering electronics is one of them. Well that, and I can't back up a boat trailer to save my life.

The first limitation was handily solved by the MSPNP. We'll see how it goes.
