Default VVT1 err

Hi guys,

I bought and installed a mspnppro for a 2001 non MSM miata (weekend race car). Car starts and idles great with base tune. The issue is the VVT does not work ( "VVT1 err" in TS). TS shows 275* VVT angle no matter what. Note that the trigger offset is 9.0 to get 10* of base timing.

My diagnosis thus far..

-The car did run well with the stock ECU. When it was dynoed a few months ago just after a head refresh, the car made proper power.. suggesting a working VVT.

-I also have a completely stock 2003 miata that I installed the same megasquirt on and it works perfectly. TS shows 0-3* for VVT angle. So the megasquirt is not the issue. no "VVT1 err"

-I used this 2003 car to take both the cam and crank sensors off and try on the 2001 car. Did not fix the issue.

-I have not verified mechanical timing.. Is this the next step?

No, your next step should be setting your VVT minimum and maximum angles.
