I just installed a knock sensor for my megasquirt, and now I need to adjust the gain to make it read properly.

I guess the generally accepted method for this is to make the engine knock, and adjust the sensor to report just this noise while ignoring all other noise.

How do I do that? I increased the timing to 75 degrees btdc at 2300rpm and full throttle (but no boost), and I couldn't hear any knock. Not that I really know what I'm listening for. The indicator lights up occasionally where I expect there to be knock but I can't hear anything.

Is there a better way to induce knock, or am I doing something wrong?

Oh good lord stop whatever the **** you are doing with 75 degrees of timing. Jesus christ.

You want to set it up with NO knock, ever. Retard timing, run race gas, do whatever to ensure that you NEVER see knock. Then increase the pot until the light just BARELY doesn't come on when you are at 7000rpm on the highway. It should be as sensitive as possible without going off.

If you set it up right, it will NEVER go off except if there is an event, and it will pick up every single little event.

edit: I had to add a second potentiometer to mine to get enough adjustment. Something to consider if you adjust yours all the way deaf and it still goes off.
