Default post your working cranking settings here :-)

i was thinking about my starting issues on my way into work this morning, and realized that unless something was mechanically wrong, my neon will start up nearly instantly in any weather, any time of day, etc etc etc... and so does almost every single factory car i have ever owned (except my old carburated dakota... but carbs... well... yeah... )

anyway, i thought it might be worth it to try and get a collection of cranking settings from miata people, and see if we can see who's using what, and what seems to be working reliably for people in cold weather, hot weather, etc...

part of me is just curious to see how much variation there is between working setups for people. the other part is wondering why we haven't figured out a "magic recipe" yet, that with some pretty small tweaks to account for SLIGHT variations from setup to setup, would more or less just work. though, maybe with all the variations in MS construction, differences in people's board mods, injector tolerances, etc... maybe all that variation adds up to making what i'm thinking not possible.

i know everyone's car is different, but at the same time, we're all running 1.6L or 1.8L miata motors with damn the same compression, and from a startup POV, only really changing the size of the injector.

if nothing else, i'm interested to see what variations people are using, since even just between my original settings and what i've seen in DIY's and Braineak's, there are three different combinations of the top section of "cranking settings" window dropdowns... that just seems... odd...

Agreed. Starting is the one area I'm really not happy with. Hot starts are fine (< 1hr cool down) and cold morning starts are fine but driving home for lunch and after work (~4 hour cool down) starting is horrible.

BTW, ASE used to be a problem for me but I mooched DIY's setting and they've worked pretty well.

I'm at work now, I'll post my setting tonight. MS2E uses percentage instead of milliseconds for cranking, though.

yeah, we might have to break it up into people experimenting with MSII and MSI.

EDIT REMOVED

don't use mine, they were so low because of a leaky o-ring which dumped raw fuel into #4.

these are working for me with 460cc injectors. I could possibly go lower with the PWs, I need little to no fuel to start my thing.

awesome, guys. thanks.

i'd post mine but right now they're just the calculations from the megamanual, based off some of my initial idle PW's from when the car actually ran.

anyone else, feel free to post, especially if you've started the car in less than warm weather :-)

this has been working for me in both 40° and 80° temps. My problem is not just hot restarts after the Ait sensor has heatsoaked. it starts on a long crank, it's not perfect but it works.

that worked for me tonite at 47*, 100*, 130* and immediately after a good drive (whatever that operating temp was, ~180).

this is on a 1.6L with 305CC supra injectors.

from what ive read it doesnt. since it's just a pw number. I believe MSII is a % and it's based off the req_fuel.

yep. MSI, req_fuel doesn't come into play for cranking. it DOES, however, for AE enrich and Warmup enrich, i believe, though.

that said, i'm running a 9.8 req_fuel with 305's at the moment. it was a tad lower when i calculated it, but i bumped it up a bit for a better idle...
