Question Has anyone successfully tuned DW1000's?

I have stayed away from these for various reasons over the years, the biggest reason being that ID's are 100x better in every way and just simply work, and I don't have time to waste on inferior injectors.

With that said, a local is wanting me to tune his NB with a DIYPNP that's got a set of these installed. I told him many times that he should get proven injectors cause these will be a pain and at best still won't run as good as ID's, but he's dead set on pursuing the nightmare of tuning inferior injectors.

So the question is: does anyone successfully have their Miata tuned and running on DW1000's? If so, please chime in.

PS: I've tuned DW before many times on different cars, not interested in anything except specifically DW1000 running on a Miata.

Thanks in advance

so far all I've found are threads with guys having issues setting them up, always a good sign.

from the 2 threads I found that actually have info posted,

1.6ms @ 13.2v

and

10v - 2.0ms
11v - 1.8ms
12v - 1.6ms
13v - 1.5ms
14v - 1.4ms
15v - 1.3ms

are the dead times that were posted

Sounds like the kind of customer you don't want anything to do with, IMO.

Just confirmed it's the crappy ev6 ones, just to add to the irony.

Yeah, it's sad cause these people are usually nice and are genuinely trying to build a proper turbo Miata, but cheapness/stinginess rears it's ugly head, and they usually end up buying this crap thinking "it's name brand, so it must be good, and a whole $100 cheaper than injector dynamics" and then seem surprised when you tell them it's junk, and it will be a nightmare to tune.

I'm gonna give it a shot just for funzies, having warned him about 10 times now that I'm really not having high hopes for these injectors. If anything I'll have some data to share with everyone if I somehow get them to work right.

Could be worse, they could be drilled out RX7 EV1s

Email DW. They "should" be able to get you tables for the injectors. They make solid pumps and don't seem to be complete muppets, so it'll be interesting to see what you get from them, and what you are able to do with the injectors.

The "tables" are right there in the links I posted, the problem is that I've rarely ever been able to plug in the DW supplied tables and they actually work, hence my question regarding whether someone here actually had/has them operating without issue on a Miata.

This will be fun. And by fun I mean headache.

DW1000's came with my car. When I first got the car I searched for the dead time on here and found the same info you did. I plugged in 1.6ms and started tuning. I later made a post asking for people to look at my tune and was told 1.6ms was too high. I emailed DW and asked the dead time at 13.2v and was told 1.04ms. I haven't changed anything yet, but just sharing what Deatschwerks told me.

I really just started understanding what I was doing about the time winter hit last year and I put the car away. Its running decent, but idle is erratic at times. I have a lot of tuning left to do.

18psi, any update on your tuning of the car? Curious to hear what dead time worked for you and if the injectors caused any issues.

Not really.
The car is a disaster, half his wiring is all jacked up, and literally (in my opinion) 90% of the turbo setup and basically everything under the hood needs to be re-done. I mean, he had a plastic sewer system pipe as his cold side intercooler to tb elbow. That should give you an idea LOL

I made him a base map. He got the car to start, somewhat. I'm not gonna waste any more time on that car until it's properly re-done.

If by some miracle everything is fixed soon, I'll follow up with results/data.

I'm always surprised when I look at this photo and remember it's the highest HP car I've tuned. (before pic, made 350whp on 185 snow tires)

I have DW700 in the car now. They are EV6 w/Denso connectors. PnP for the Miata.

I found DW's provided dead times to be inaccurate. I needed to almost double them to get to target AFR using roughly 50-60% VE at idle and ~100% VE at WOT. Great injectors otherwise. They ran very consistently for me at my last track day.
