Default MS1 + Fuel pump Question

I'm working on my harness and I have a question regarding the F/P circuit.

I see from here.... http://www.boostedmiata.com/MS/9697_...ne_harness.jpg
..that the MS uses 4T (Y/R) for the fuel pump. According to my diagram 4T goes directly to the Purge Solenoid Valve (looks like a ground). How does this have anything to do with the fuel pump?
Fuel pump relay has 4 inputs:

LG: to ECU (assuming a ground)
L/R: to Fuel pump
W/R: Power from Main Relay
W/R: Power from Main Relay

LG is not used at all with the MS. Since the LG and W/R form the circuit to "pull" the relay shut, it won't function without both obviously.

Without looking at the MS I'm assuming 4T, is jumpered to 1U (LG). But why not just use 1U to begin with? Is it just how the MS is designed?

It's early so this might not make sense. Or the answer may be obvious, but either way I'm confused.

I think you're running into the issue I had to correct with my harness.

That's the updated, ie correct, 96/97 diagram.

Oh man that one is so much better. So this makes sense.

This makes me feel better.
