Well, I've done it. After several months of hesitation, I finally ordered a MS2 for my '99.
Must admit that even after spending hours and hours of reading the '99 topics, it's still not entirely clear on which circuits to use (lots of them floating around on the forum). I guess it'll all fall into place one I start building but I also suspect to be asking lots of questions in the not too distant future though .

What's up with all you western Europeans suddenly megasquirting your NBs all at once?

At this point, I am liking the schmidt-trigger circuit posted by JasonC the best. We'll have to draw a final "ready to build" version of it, but it looks fairly straightforward to me.

What all did you order, exactly?

By the way, I clicked on the http://westfieldmx5.devocht.com/ link in your signature, and it takes me to a dead (parked) webpage. I want to see your westfield, dammit!

Thx, it feels nice to finally have hit the order button .

I don't know what's going on over here, but there's 5 belgians building a MX5 powered Westfield right now. I'm the only one fitting a MS though.
The engine is a euro '99, but apart from a fuel return line, they are pretty much identical. I'll be installing a stock MSM turbo setup. Not top of the bill, I know, but I'm on a tight budget.

I ordered:
1 x PCBv3 and v2.2 -- Pullup Resistors 'ModKit' (mk-pullup) = $1.60
1 x PCBv3 and v2.2 -- Relay Control 'ModKit' (VTEC, TVIS, Fans (mk-RelayCtrl) = $5.00
1 x PCBv3 -- PWM IAC Valve Control (TIP120) 'Mod-Kit' (mk-PWMIAC) = $7.00
1 x MSPNP IAT Sensor Kit - Steel Bung (MSPNP_IAT-S) = $29.00
1 x MegaSquirt Wiring Bundle - 23" Long (SM-WireBund) = $12.00
1 x MegaSquirt-II Engine Management System w/PCB3 - UnAssembled Kit (MS230-K) = $247.00
1 x MPX4250 2.5 Bar MAP Sensor (MPX4250AP) = $28.00
1 x JimStim v1.4 MegaSquirt Stimulator w/ Wheel Simulator -Unassembl (jimstim-k) = $59.00

I would love to have a keypad of some sort (like the Link ecu) to adjust / monitor all data, but the touchpanel seems a bit expensive and I'm not sure what the megaview can do on a MS2.

Ha yes, I let the domain expire, but I renewed just today. I received the confirmation email just a couple of minutes ago, so it should be back online after the weekend.

Frank

Woehoe, Megasquirt has finally arrived! It was held up in customs for a couple of weeks .
I can finally start building! Will start with the jimstim

Congrats,
Looks like we are doing a very similar build.

I just did my stim a few days ago. Man what a blast that was!
Now unfortunately i am getting a bit bogged down on the MS2 v3.0.

-currently trying to figure out the correct ignition jumper to use-
i guess i didn't do quite enough homework.

Jimstim is done.
All tests passed.
Will start on the MS tomorrow

Got to step 55 today, but something went wrong.
All pots work, except for RPM. Previous test of the JimStim showed RPM led working, so JimStim is ok.
Will look into it tomorrow, it's midnight overhere now ...

I would, but I'm a veeeery long way from fiddling with IAC settings. I haven't even started playing with megatune or anything. Probably (hopefully) the reason why my RPM isn't doing anything in megatune. Will have look this evening.

How do you do the CAs/CAM? 90-97 CAS? or Abes circuit?

How did you set the JimStim?

I'm going to use the stock NB sensors. I haven't decided yet which circuits I'll use for that. There's so many circuits floating around that it's hard to figure out which one to use. I'm still in the learning fase on this .

All tests in step 55 are ok (MAT, CLT, TPS, O2 are working). RPM is the only one that's not working.

The JimStim is set like this:
- Dip 2, 3 and 6 are on
- all other dips are off
- jumper is set for a square wave signal (bottom position, not VR)

I have no clue on how and if DIPs 7 and 8 need to be set (they're off).
I have no clue if I need a 2nd tach signal or not (assuming not because a search on the forum gave no topics about this).

Could it be a wrong setting in MegaTune?

You do need a second tach signal. The NB has two sensors- one crank, one cam. The DIP switch settings on your stim are correct, however it's possible that your jumpers may not be.

First, for the primary signal, you should have no jumpers in the red box, and a jumper across the two terminals indicated in the green box:

Next, assuming that you wired your second trigger input (internally on the MS PCA) to be fed from the IAC1A terminal (pin 25 of the DB37), then you need to run a wire jumper as illustrated by the blue line.

That should be enough to get you an RPM signal, assuming everything is correct inside the MS. What have you done there?

I recommend building Abe's reverse engineered input circuits w/ 40% more awesomeness per serving. I used his original ones (before the 40% more awesomeness) and had noise issues every once in a while that caused resets with MS. Very frustrating. Gave up reading the stock sensors (Abe had not yet reverse engineered the factory circuits) and put a trigger wheel on the crankshaft and am much happier now. (like 200% more awesomeness than my previous setup)

I'm a bit confused here. I'm still building the board. I'm only up to step 55, testing what I already have. I didn't build any input circuits yet. The manual doesn't say I have to have them to get the tests in step 55 to work.

On the MS board I have:
# Jumper XG1 to XG2
# Jumper OPTOIN to TACHSELECT
# Jumper TSEL to OPTOOUT

I hooked up 2nd tach to pin 25 but it makes no difference. Shouldn't the RPM bar move, even without this 2nd tach pin or without the cranck and cam input circuits?

I noticed 02 isn't doing anything in MegaTune either. I measure 0 to 1V on the JimStim O2 output.
I could swear that it was working yesterday. Mmm, could this just be a couple of settings in megatune that are wrong?
I'm using the megasquirt-II.ini.2.8 (MSII Rev 2.88700) file that came with the setup. ONly thing I changed is type of ecu (=1) and engine size =112.
CODE_VARIANT is set to MSII
LAMBDA_SENSOR is set to narrowband (I have no jumper on the O2 header on jimstim)

the two of us are in exactly the same boat i have my board pretty much complete and a fan relay installed.
My jumpers are the same except i used TSEL to VROUT. however i think that mine is wrong and will likely change it to the same as yours.
I am having exactly the same problems as you are.
The only difference is that when i had my wires like this(see older pic below) my o2 pot worked and i was able to get the two color led's to lite randomly.
(go to my thread https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t27589/ to see that my wires currently are set just like in Brainiac's sticky)

you do might want to change those wires going to the outputs. thats where one of the spark outputs usually go to if following brain's wiring scheme.

just swapped tsel to optout and i do geta tach reading now. However it is jumping all over the place. I don't exactly know what to make of it (it might just be megatune settings), but at least it is giving a reading.

Hope my random trial and error helps

I traced O2 voltage from JimStim to the daughterboard (through R10 to CPU pin 28) and the voltage arrives at the cpu, so it should show something in MegaTune. Mmm.

Edit: I removed the blue jumper in the diagram above (from 2nd trigger header pin to DB37 pin 25) and now I have a fix O2 reading of 0.480V

the o2 doesn't seem to show until you have rpm

Well, I'd help ya but I've never messed with a Jim Stim. I had a regular one. But once you do all the mods to the MS2, it won't test hardly anything. So I just followed the directions and AbeFM's advice and built it and then troubleshooted when it was done. Anyways, I suggest you build it and see if it works.

Also, you need MS2E code IIRC. That's like MS2 regular code, I think. No expert, but look it up. Here's the "release" code for MS2E
