Default 90-93 Base map for MS2/E

Hey guys. I got a DIYPNP for my stock '91 miata. Installed an LC-1 on the 02 sensor input, and did all the other mods listed in this page:

http://diyautotune.com/diypnp/apps/n...3-16bp-mt.html

Now, I can't get the base map to load. It gives me a bunch of errors. Can you guys please post up your base maps for any stock miata? I've heard the 1.8 maps function to get the car running nearly as well as the 1.6 base maps. I can get it running if I disconnect the map sensor (so it thinks its 98kpa all the time) and it idles fine. If I plug in the map sensor, it immediately dies. Please help, I'm feeling lost and frustrated, and I know I'm being pretty nooby for asking. I've searched for "Base map" and everything, I can't seem to find a good .msq. Thanks in advance guys.

Did you unplug the TPS? What kind of errors did you get?

No, I didn't unplug the TPS. I'll do that this afternoon. When I try to open the .msq file, it says something like "the file loaded, but there are 811 errors you should look at. Burn to ECU anyway?"

When it idles with the map sensor unplugged (but closed so there's no intake leak) it runs pig rich. It smells strongly of fuel and there's quite the fuel smog coming out the tailpipe. I only ran it for a few seconds (just enough to calibrate the base timing) because I don't want to ruin the WB.

I have no idea what I'm doing. I followed that guide to get the board built and installed, and I thought I did everything right. I connected the map sensor correctly, I followed all the other instructions. My solders are solid. I've been struggling for 2 days to get the damn thing just running. Half the time I can get a tach signal, half the time I can't. Sometimes it cranks and catches, and then dies. Sometimes it cranks and doesn't catch at all. I can't find good documentation anywhere... It's out there, but it's so convoluted between the various mother/daughter boards, the processors, firmwares, tuning programs, etc... there's no single source to find help for what I can only assume to be a thousand issues.

I don't know if I have any recourse, there's not a lot of local knowledge on the subject. I think I might call it quits and bitch out to stick with the piggyback. *ashamed and frustrated*

Are you using the stock maf? Since you're on stock injectors, did you make sure the req. fuel is set for stock injectors, and not the 460cc's as shown on the diy site? Did you calibrate your sensors? How did you load the firmware?

Yes, I'm using the stock maf. I have the map sensor routed properly though. Yes, the req. fuel is set properly. The file that I downloaded from the above diy guide has both 460's and 240's, and I'm using the right one. I calibrated my wideband, and I left the IAC and TPS alone because that's what the guide said to do.

I loaded the firmware with a .bat file included in the MS2/E download package. I was using 2.1.0 until I realized that I couldn't find any base maps from that release, so I upgraded to 3.0.3s so I could run the map from the link above, and that actually made things much worse. Now it won't catch (not sure if it's fuel or spark problem), the tach displays 65,000 at all times regardless of what I do, and it gives me warnings whenever I try to load a .msq file. I tried using TunerStudioMS which seemed to work a little better because it told me through pop-up dialogs what was going wrong, but it still had the same end results.

65,000+ rpms means tyou have a conflict in your settings.

You need to read the warnings/error messages you've got and fix those first.

You car will never *ever* run without an RPM reading.

I emailed Russ at DIYAutotune, he's posting a guide for the 90-93 Miatas tonight (hopefully) so I'll probably have better luck following that guide. Since I'm such a noob, I'm still trying to figure out how this system works and just get it to talk to my computer so I can get it to fire up. Here's hoping.

Turn tach output off to fix the 65k rpm issue. Did you calibrate your sensors (coolant air temp)?

Yes, I calibrated the sensors... and I've got tach output off and it's still at 65000. Hopefully I'll keep this good email chain going with Russ and we'll figure it out.

Are you 100% sure the firmware loaded on the ms is compatible with the basemap on the car?

I am using 3.0.3t. I uploaded it to my ecu, but I'm not sure that it's 3.0.3t. When I look in the downloads directory, it gives me a bunch of 3.0.3x versions to choose from. I got the 3.0.3t .zip, and ran the .bat that uploads the firmware. After that, if I use tunerstudio and 'detect' the firmware, it says 3.0.3s, which is incompatible I guess. Frustrating to have so many different versions... but that's life. I gotta figure out how to get 3t working, so I can get the base map working, so I can get my car working.

everything after S is coming up as S when it detects, even U. Ignore the warnings, they will be stupid little things.

When the rpms are stuck at 65,000 it's because there are conflicts: two or more settings on the same output.

there's a procedure to look up the conflicts when you connect, but it's lost in the vast void which should host my brain.
