Default IAT Sensor Installation

Hi,

I installed my IAT sensor last weekend and wired it all up for my MSPNP. I am now left trying to work out how I can make the connection into the AFM connector more robust and better looking.

Can I ask what everyone else did and ask for you to post some pictures to help me please?

Thanks.

Bob.

Buy a long roll of heatshrink tubing, I would cover he entire harness with it. By entire harness i mean the two wires going to the sensor.

I hate that corner. There is one exposed wire in my engine bay, it's the wire coming to the EBC solenoid, it's tucked in that corner. Makes me mad everytime i see it.

I've a feeling the OP is from the UK as his username is BBRxxx as in Brodie Britian Racing. there was a Dealer warrintied turbo conversion for the MK1's performed by BBR.

long story short the brake booster is on the other side

Can someone explain very quickly what the IAT does in terms of calculations inside the MS? I understand what it does, but how does it contribute?

Also, does the AFM actually need airflow flowing over it for the ecu to not throw a code or is it just the electrical component it looks for?

AIT sensor is a big factor on multiple fuel calculations and corrections.

the ECU only wants to see that the AIT signal is still there, it doesn't care if it doesn't see airflow anymore.

You have a link where I can read about how that works exactly in relation to A/F mixture?

Grab the two wire ends and put them in the open chuck of a drill. Close the chuck and twist the wires together. Then run electrical tape over the wires from end to end. Looks factory.

Sam, read the megamanual, and go to www.msefi.com
there's tons of references.

right before the TB...mine is not installed yet, but thats where i see most people putting them and DIYautotune recommends that on a boosted application it needs to be as close to the TB as possible (within reason)

anywhere between the TB and IC really.

I'd rather have mine halfway in between to help against heat soak issues.

Ok, so why are you running the wiring all the way to the otherside of the engine?

so will it heatsoak if its closer to the TB...thanks for the info, i need to rethink it then
also, any benefit to place it either before or after the BOV (VTA) is it better before or after or does it not make a difference at all?
i was planing to use SS cold side pipe in hopes that it would help the charge stay cooler vs AL since i assume that the charge exiting IC is cooler than ambient, no? please chime in and help me understand this better

i ran the wire from the sensor to the engine block and AFM harness. it HAS to be after the intercooler. you can tap your intake manifold yourself if you want, but what's wrong with an extra 2' of wire?

I thought it was a wire the went back directly to the MS, didn't know you were using the AFM harness.

I used to run my IAT in the dummy throttle body. but once I fixed my Idle air controller (coolant passage was blocked) it heatsoaked like a ****.

I've since moved it to a 45deg bend straight after my chargecooler just before the DTB. no heatsoack issue here anymore
