Default Getting ready to squirt a 90, glad I found you guys!

Hi there, I contacted Al on the MS forum and he referred me here. This is amazing! I'm finding you guys a little easier to understand than the MS forum. I built 2 MS's last year. I wish I would have known that they would sit so long or I would have waited to get the new version. Anyway, I was waiting until I got to Texas to find out if I could run it here with the state inspections. I just passed my inspection on the stock computer, (after buying a cat ) but I should have no problems a year from now even if it's on MS. Al sent me a link and I'm already a bit worried because it looks like some of you have had problems with the stock coolant sensor. I surprised myself, but I finally got Easytherm to load a new .s19 file with values Al posted to the MS forum. I have been using the MS pinout file from that forum as well. It says to use a 1K ohm resistor to the tach wire. I have also seen here that I may need 2 or 3 1K resistors. Are these to be used in series, parallel? I just downloaded Al's .msq file, I'll try that first. I have a track day tomorrow and I don't want to screw that up, but after that I plan to splice this baby in! REALLY pleased to find out about you guys, hopefully you'll still accept me even though I'm not boosted!

Later,
Kyle Verploegen

I would recommend wiring yours in like Kags did in his post on this forum. That would be alot cleaner than the splice mess I have in mine. Also, I'd reccomend going ahead and hooking up to the CAS signal instead of the ignitor, if you are planning to go spark in the future.

I'm not following what he did. It seems to me like in order to be plug and play I would need another male and female set of ECM connectors and I can't tell what that grey connector is in his picture. I would love to go with spark too simply to get rid of that awful AFM. Seeing that more of you have done this gives me hope, but again, I am using V2.2, and it looks like everyone is using 3.00 now. Not that that will stop me, but I just can't wait to get fuel going and be able to tune in real time. I spent way too many hours, months, (years?) of my life playing with the DIY-EFI 7747 computer on a LT-1 burning chips, then changing code in hex with a DOS interface. I had a hacker friend get me into it, but it always seemed over my head and I was never satisfied with the tune. So basically, given the shape of the car I'm working with, and my anxiety to get it running and play with this project that is years in the making, I think I'm going to splice. However, I will go with the CAS suggestion. That will work just the same and not need the resistor?

Thanks,
Kyle

Yeah, you don't need a resistor. Just do the input mods to the board. Actually everyone but me and aussie driver used v2.2 boards.
It sounds like you're going to be pretty impressed with MS, because at least for fuel, it is really quick and easy to set up.

Crap, lost again! What input mods to the board?

Oh, sorry, found it in Aussie driver's thread. So when you go for spark, do you then use the relay board, or are you guys doing without that altogether?

If you're using the V3.0 board then you don't need the relay board.

BTW I'm running N/A too and the guys have been real nice to me!!

Major progress last night. I wasn't reading spark because I was only using the jumper from XG1 to XG2 for using the stim. I was finishing assembly on the other MS I almost had built and going through the assembly process brought me to that decision point on the board and in the past I guess I hadn't planned on running it the way I am right now. I also put the 2.49K resistor back across R7 and my CTS is only about 10 degrees off. Close enough! So I'm reading spark when the OEM ECU is running it, but as you have described, the OEM tach doesn't work. I never got an answer, should I put more resistors in series or parallel?

Aussie, I tried your .msq file, and it says there are 20 warings to the audit file. Any idea why thiss would be?

So I tried running it on MS. It fires, revs, then dies. Revs then dies. But it's running fuel and spark when it does that. I increased cranking fuel by 50% but it didn't help. It's like it really wants a TPS signal, because it doesn't respond at all to the gas pedal. Any more suggestions?

Getting closer,
Kyle

When I ran fuel only last year, I ended up with 2 x 1k resistors for the tach signal from the ignitor.

That .msq is set up to read the tach signal through the wheel decoder so it can read the CAS signal. Even if you aren't planning on running spark, do the board mods to get the CAS connections working and that .msq should be fine. If you are running 029q2, you shouldn't be getting any error messages at all with my .msq.
