98 NB 1.6 miata with msI v3 or upgrade?
Hello everyone, 5 years ago a bought ms I v3 for my 98 NB 1.6 miata, thinking i would run parallel or stand alone with 97 cas and alternator mods. But life happened and here i am thinking, should i upgrade? as i have read here i should be able to upgrade ms2 relatively easy and the cost would be minimal, and i wouldn`t even need cas from an earlier model. But is it worth it? If I would like to run it standalone, what over mods should i make? Or should i drop these and buy ms3? I know it may be a pretty wide question, but i would really be grateful for any directions.

With MS1 it won't work anyway. Your Cam doesn't have the sprockets at the end to fit a 90-97 CAS... (Ask me how I know...)
You need to upgrade to MS2 at least to use your OEM CAM and Crank sensors...
Go big or go home - so upgrade to MS3 (+MS3x) - profit.
You can find a How-to here: (It's for a DIY MS3 PNP - all in one box)

Regarding ms1 - i remembered that it could work with a trigger wheel and some sort of a sensor for it, and it seems you can buy an OEM triger wheel of 2000 Protégé link. off course i would still use and 97 alternator circuit (or rewire OEM). Then the main drawback would be outdated software?
Regarding Your suggestion - it sounds pretty good, and it would run an all stock miata sensors? even with a narrowband? I just have to find the way to justify the prices (Yikes).
Also, i won't rush into things, i still have to ask DIYautotune about the possibility and price of upgrading to ms2. If using ms2 then i could use the stock CAM and Crank sensors, and only solve the alternator problem, or am i missing something?

I think I was the first one to Megasquirt a 1,6 NB (as they are not known in the U.S.)
You can also do a MS2, Frank also has the knowledge on his his site:

There is everything you need to know...
P.S.: I would never try to tune on a Narrowband sensor - go get yourself a wideband.
