cant connecrt TS with ecu

cant connecrt TS with ecu
this is my 1st time trying this, i bought the usb/serial converter from diy, installed on my windows vista(auto load type stuff) the adapter says its working properly, but none of the com ports will connect. i hate this **** and im super frustrated

Did you download the driver from a disk? It wouldn't work on my buddy's HP with Vista when he tried. He had to download the driver from the manufacturer's web site and then it would work. Don't ask me why but it did.

Did you find out the com port number and set the ms to connect to this com number? It very well could be way out to com 23 or something, so hunting for it won't work. I don't have vista, can someone else tell him the method of discovering com port number? Also keep in mind that if you connect to a different usb port on the computer it will use a different com port number.

If he has it connected to the powered up ECU and opens Device Manager it should show which port has the USB-Serial adapter attached. As EasyTherm requires port 1 - 4 you should re-assign the USB to one of those. If I recall you right click on the port and then on advanced and then change to show the ports choices; then re-assign to one that is empty.

Yeah it was saying I was set up on comm 6, I did download from the disk so maybe that's a problem. Is there a start up sequence you guys use for connecting ? Also will the led's on the ecu tell me anything? Two of the three light up. My bro is up from chicago he does I.t work so ill see if he can help too
