I'm about to install my Megasquirt and I need to access a certain Pin on the Serial Cable on my Techedge. This cable operates by Display and therefore I kinda need a Boomslang Harness of some sort for a DB9.
Anyone know where I can buy something which will allow my to tap a certain wire? I really don't want to open the unit and solder to the board.
You can build your own DB9 cable variant with bits from most any computer store. I had to do something similar with my old Techedge, but I don't have the display. Do you really need the display?
My local computer stores suck! I do want to keep the display, and have it mounted stealth behind the face plate of the AEM Cassette Deck. (Where the tape should go shows the readout)
I was all ready to (mockingly) post a link to the location of the Radio Shack store nearest you, and I find that Radio Shack apparently has no stores in Ontario, or for that matter, all of Canada. They have locations in Haiti, Bahrain, Honduras, Egypt, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and a bunch of other countries I'd never have guessed, but not Canada. Bizarre... Ok, northerners, help me out here. There has to be a Canadian equivalent of Radio Shack!
Sadly, you're not going to have much luck at a computer store these days when it comes to buying discrete DB-9 connectors and cable. 15 years ago, yes. But times they are a changin'.
However, if you can find a standard DB-9 RS-232 cable, you could cut it apart and tap the appropriate wire. I'd hit not only the computer stores, but the general office supply and consumer electronics stores as well. RS-232 is certainly not a popular standard these days, but it does still exist.

I wonder if they have Fry's in Ontario? These seem to be a bit better stocked than Radio Shack in some ways.
Not a chance. We've barely got any in the US outside of California and Texas, a couple in Arizona. They're primarily a southwestern chain, with just a few oddball locations in other states. I'm really gonna miss Frys.

A span of only 150 miles. Care to be more specific?
Also, be aware that Fry's supermarkets, which use almost exactly the same logo, are a separate entity and do not sell electronics.
Its closer to NC than the GA border, that cuts down it down to about half. Its been a little while since I've been through there, and it was just being built then.
Didn't know that there was a Fry's supermarkets. Could have been one of those actually.
