Default Connection Woes on new Megasquirt

Hello I hope someone can help.

Mazda mx5 1.8 1997 mk1

I have a ms 2 from reverant and I can't get it to connect to my laptop.

So far I have used a laptop with serial to no avail

I then purchased a usb to serial adapter installed that and tested it through hyperterminal, which brings back what I am typing.

However when I try to connect to the ecu it states no controller found check connections and drivers. I am sure the cable works but not sure if I have a setting mixed up.

Ideally if someone with previous experience or is local to lend some assistance would be much appreciated
based in buckinghamshire

Thanks in advance Nick

Did you load the COM port drivers?

I loaded the drivers that came with the cable.

The drivers for the com ports have all been installed correctly asthere is no yellow triangle next to them in device manager

When setting up the new project, I remember having to change the com port and baud rate to get it to connect.

Probably a dumb question but when nothing else works....

Did you have the ECU powered up when you tried to connect? It won't work on a bench. Don't start the car, just put the key in and give it 2(?) clicks. You should hear the fuel pump prime.

Hi

the ecu is currently in the car, at current i have no way of bench testing.

With second stage ignition the fuel pump runs for two seconds

Please post a snapshot of Device Manager, with the USB cable adapter highlighted.

The CH340 USB adapter is pretty much trash, so I don't trust it at all.

The plain serial cable should work though. Anything running on the laptop with the serial port that could be hogging the port?

I thought the cable was no good, so i have purchased a cable from a company that guarantee that it will work with megasquirt

The laptop is as basic as it comes it literally has windows, and a couple of programs so i dont think anything else is using the port.

Does the car actually try to start if you crank it?

With ms ecu plugged car churned for a couple of seconds then fired up like normal, then immediately started hunting, revving from 500 to 1500 rpm

hope this helps

it is likely you haven't but try and get to project properties and ensure the CAN communication in the CAN tab is not active.

I had terrible comms issues when I turned it on thinking it was for something else....

You have checked in device manager what port your usb device is allocated and then set that in the tunerstudio comms setting?

Its been a while but will report back.

I have successfully connected to the car and she runs like a dream.

The problem was i started out with a cable that didn't work, which was swiftly changed for a cable that was guaranteed to work which was faulty. A replacement was sent and the rest was history. i also tried using an old laptop with serial but no avail on that either

Hope this helps other

A big thank you to reverant for support and other forum members
