Default MS coil packed 420A

Is there someone using the 420A neon coil pack? What are you using for spark plug wire??

Let say you removed completly the stock ecu, the cluster tachimeter would lost his signal and would need a new ne to be funtionnal again. Since the coil pack is wasted spark style, we need to build a new one from MS unit. Anyone knows how to make it??

Are you from another country, or did you fail high school english? Anyway, you can setup a tach output by following directions in the MSnS Extra manual here -> http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/tachopin.html

Why use a neon coil pack? The stock miata ignitor supplies the dash tach, you shouldn't need the MS to do it.

because 1.8 stock coils suck donkey dick?

What? Are you saying someone doesn't drive a 1.6 like I do? Impossible.

Wtf is up with you man? It seems like a pretty decent question to me from someone with 2 posts. Actually seems like he understands what the megasquirt is and how it works for the most part.

Not much really. It's just that it took me 2.2 seconds to find the answer on the MSnS extra forum. Also, we have no idea what he is trying to do with what equipment. As Al said, the tach signal comes from the ignitor and not the ECU or the coils, so swapping coils has jack to do with it.

I guess I just wasn't impressed with the post.

Haha! really funny, I use to speak french everyday, and I never went to high school neither. But if you try speak french with me, we'll have a lot of high tech conversation

You URL is cool, I've been reading MS for couples years. I've done so far 10-15 MS installation but that was on V6 "K" series engine. I own 2 mx3 ZE, one is N/A running 280 deg cams/ SDS management and the other one is a 2.5 turbo/MS running 15psi sometime @ 400whp. I also got a 323 swapped ZE runnig also megasquirt...

So I really appreciate if you can help, but don't think I'm dick, cause I got bad english or I only have 2 posts. I'm also owner of a tuning shop I think I can help few people out there.

Thanks for those who's trying to help

First, the engine is a BPT. I've installed it over a mx6 4 cylinder FS 2.0L engine. The chassis harness was kinda uncompatible with the rest of the engine, it was a bitch to make this alive.

The engine ran with stock BP (from Protegé) ignitor/coil, but I just upgraded the turbo for GTR IHI VJ23. The car came back in garage, seems taht the ignitor died for no reason, after running fine for a year.

We just decided to install coil pack, There's no factory ecu in there, so that's why I got to build a circuit to make the tach funtionnal again. Since the coil pack is wasted spark system, it's like you run 2 cylinders, fired by 2 individual outputs. The spark won't be going through thedisty anymore. You just can't connect both spark output channel on the tach or all cyl would fire at the same time...anyway.

I hope you understand a bit more.

Ok let me say that your reply isn't impress neither, so as I understand, you're the kind of guy that only provide links but could'nt do anything by himself so, just stay away from this post.

If you would be familliar with wasted spark, you would knew that I dont need stock ignitor...Seems like I've accomplished more things in 2.2sec than you did with your search fonction.

If you take a look at the neon's coil pack, you would realized that stock wires would'nt fit over the coil pack. I'm still thinking that my question was clear: "is there anyone that runs neon coil pack? if so what kind of spark plug wire you're using?" I also forgot to mention, the coil pack will be fired directly by MS via VB921ZFI high ccurrent transistor. So no stock ignitor in the engine bay

Now now, no need to twist yer panties. Based on your posts, the original question stands. I never thought your were a dick, just that you were giving us jack to work with. Now that you've actually told us what you are trying to do, let's move on...

Plug wires - Easy, make a hybrid set with the Neon coil ends and the Miata plugs ends. Since you're a tooner you probably have the tools.

Tach output - Is there a problem with using the link I provided? If so, why? I'm sure something can be figured out.

yeah custom's always the solution, but when you can get one without modification, it makes the life simplier for a tuner

ex: Over a KL V6 engine, wasted sparked with explorer 4.0L coilpack, I use 626 98 up spark plugs wire..it's bolt on.

If no one ever installed wasted spark system in a miata, it dosen't really matter, I'll find the solutions, and I'll make a post about coil pack installation in miata

You have to know....I've learned the MSNS extra hardware manual by heart

Ok, but you know that we already use wasted spark with coil packs, right? 'Tis the way the Mazda gods wanted it.

Then I'm still wondering why you don't build the tach output circuit?

Yeah i think you are over complicating this what does the neon coil do that the miata coils don't both seem to be wasted spark? A mod to get a tach signal doesn't seem to difficult for someone of your background apperently so go for it.

I don't understand. I think there is something being lost in translation here.

Ok let me explain a different way.

Wasted spark: 2 coil firing the 2 opposites cylinder simultaneous, so 1-3 and 2-4 together. When cylinder no.1 is getting fired, the cyl 3 is getting also a spark but it's on exaust cycle.

To control this I got to build 2 tach output, via led 17 and 19 of MS. They're gonna be fired with VB921 transistor, so I don't need the OEM power module. I could have use the stock ignitor, except for a setup like this, it would requiered another one.

Since I removed the stock ignitor, the tach signal, sent to the tachimeter (inside the cluster) is lost. To get this working back, I got to build a circuit, cause I just can't take both tach output signal, provided by led 17-19, or they would fire all cylinder at the same time. If I send only one signal, the tachimeter would read a 2 cylinder engine...

I know there's simplier solutions to fire the cylinder, but I really want to go that way. Coilpack is handling much more spark at high rev, since you divide the works by 2, there's more time for the coils to get charged.

The engine harness was from proGT 92, so, at the base, it was a single coil fired by power module, so there was no wasted spark in there. This system is out of date

I understand wasted spark, but doesn't the MS tach output read the same as waht you see in megatune? In other words, the same as it is reading from the CAS input, and NOT the spark output, which would read 1/2 speed as a 2cylinder?

I don't know if this is way over my head or if we are not communicating well. In either case, you should start a thread at msefi.com
