Default MS PNP - not getting power to the ECU?

hey all....coming out of winter hibernation

details about car: 90 5spd 1.6 stock engine 154k, works fine

anyways, long story, but full details - please see if you guys can help me!

in february i put in a 9093 MS PNP into my miata....wired it up...all good

it fired up right away and worked like a champ, cept i didnt yet tune or dial in the timing...too cold out!

mid march i worked on the AFM delete and fabbed up an intake setup....wanted to reflash the ECU with the AFM delete firmware, so i unplugged ignitor and necessary things in order to do so....but my laptop was Vista64 bit and the .bat file wouldnt run in 64 environment

2 weeks later get around to reinstalling windows xp 32 bit on a dual boot...plugged the ecu to computer and getting funky error messages....talk to MS people and they say it means the ecu isnt registering a connection, so i fiddle with computer and sure enough its reading the USB connection

rip out the carpet to unveil ECU, its not lighting up with key on...MS people say that means the ECU isnt getting 12V...which is why the error messages are not registering to the ECU "being present"

there are 3 major steps i had in this procedure but nothing was done wrong or butchered:

1. put MS in...fired up and worked

2. tried to reflash firmware, did not work due to OS, so nothing happened at all on the ECU...at this time ECU STILL HAS 12V and LIGHTS UP

3. TWO weeks later....connected again, and NO 12V.... battery is charged

can anyone help me figure out what is going on, or what to check? why would it just lose power??? i really need to get this car driving, hasnt moved in months and i miss it!

thanks in advance,
mike

ps - if anyone is in the phily / delaware / baltimore area and can help i will pay in beer!

Is the key in the "on" position?

Is the harness plugged in and not loose?

Have you tried reflashing the firmware with the boot jumper in place?

Can you check and verify that the MS is not getting power (volto-meter)?

Could your megasquirt have been damaged ( water, feet, hamsters etc)?

thats all i can think of

EDIT: What funky messges? do you have an example?

1. yes

2. yes , unplugged and replugged a bunch of times

3. not sure what the boot jumper is....this was bought second hand, but like i said has worked in my car....never opened the case up yet

4. ive tried to use a multimeter but its not pulling power off the 22pin connector at pin 1B....i think the multimeter might be shitty though, im buying a new one soon

5. its possible damage could have occurred, but not by water, feet, or hamsters....i mean no one has gone near or in the car....in those two weeks it just sat locked up in a garage...so...no i think the answer here is no

edit: they were just messages in the .bat indicating no connectivity to the ECU...it was jumbled stupid dos style type (ie, "tried to send ?A?@, but replied ?A" to that extent)

edit 2: the biggest problem here is that the ECU itself is not connecting to the laptop IN ORDER TO reflash...the ECU does not light up like it usually does (red), and thus making me think it is not receiving power when turned on, therefore not connecting to the laptop to receive its flash and .msq

expected “MS/extra format hr_10**********” (found in ini file)
Reveived “MS1/extra format 029y3*********” (from controller)

something like that ( may have different vaules)

That would be a Firmware related issue.

did you happen to pull off the ground nut thats on the engine?

The way to do the boot will not matter if its not getting power. But what you do is get a paperclip and "short out" ( stick in the 2 holes ) where it says boot on the board. There right next to eachother and very close proximity to the processor.

took me 4 months lol. If i would have figured out my ignitor was bad and to plug in my fuel pump fuse it would of taken me 10 minuets.

bringing this up...

I have the same problem now. The car worked pretty nice till today when I was going to buy food Ecu doesn't get any power. I haven't blown up any fuses and I tried another ignitor, though I wouldn't believe it to work.

Everything else works but blue/yellow doesn't get any power even on acc, either does the white/red wire...

So what could it be ? Main relay, circuit opening relay or what ? Every fuse which is related to ecu is good....

problem solved. It seems that ecu doesn't get power when there is faulty fuel injection relay...

Actually the relay wasn't broken, cleaning the contacts and bending it a little solved the problem

Nice that these stories are still out here helping!

I have a 2000 Miata that was running one day, then the next it wouldn't start. There was a big backfire and the dash lights went out, and the ECU won't connect to the computer anymore.
I'll be starting with the fuel pump relay based on a previous comment.

I have the same problem.
I'll start with the fuel pump relay. (I assume that is what you meant by fuel injection relay)
