I have been screwing around on/off with my MS PnP for over two years now.
This included a normally aspirated phase before I got my turbo installed and then setting it up for safe boost
I used the normal methods such as Megalog Viewer and Tuner Studio when it was still free.
One of my pet peeves was the idle because my light weight flywheel and aluminum under drive pulley made it hard for MS to control my idle...
When I thought I had it all as good as it could get I met a guy who did what I could best describe as an arm chair tune.
Basically he looked at my MSQ tweaked it, had me capture a log and email it to him.
The first version of the tune was better than anything I had been able to accomplish and the driveability was much better.

Now I can't believe it is even the same car.:thumbs:
With a cold start log he improved my cold cranking issue and warm up table so the motor now starts and runs like stock.
I'm both happy and amazed .

All I can say to other users out there is don't give up on your tunes the MS can really do a great job!!!!

Yeah, your tune will only get better with you at the helm. I recently discussed this with a high-dollar, world-class shop/tuner who works on ALMS cars and engine management.

While I agree learning yourself is great, the help you got is ALWAYS a HUGE help because you can compare before and after and it really helps those who work better with visual guidance.

Then you can ask direct questions, reread something you may have overlooked in the mountains of information to pick up on with MS and you can also look at other peoples tunes with a greater understanding and gather new idea's from the collaboration.

I notice many who ask for this type of help get shuffled off as if they are just not doing what everyone feel's they should. Some people just need guidance of a different variety and this kind above is excellent.

If your friend does not mind throwing another some help esp on the cold start I would be happy to send him some money for a beer.

Either way though, excellent to hear for you I love the way the vehicle feels on MS if I could just get the idle and cold start down I would really be happy.

Well, I guess I was of saturated with the whole tuning thing and sort of numb to how the car was running. So someone with knowledge and objectivity helped a lot.

I don't know if he want's to work on any more tunes but I will copy him on this thread.

Just an observation, somewhat related to remote internet armchair tuning and there's no better thread to post in, so...

Casually browsing some other car forums, it seems there is a healthy market for tuning via email. You take a datalog, send it to someone, they send back an updated tune. What's foreign to me is that people will actually pay good money for this, like $100-150 for a few iterations of "tuning" and this is accepted as a normal way of doing things. To most of us the whole point is that MS/TS enables us to do this ourselves without laying down a mortgage payment on an ECU and software, and most of us want to learn. I don't know if it's because there's more money among other crowds or if there's less of the DIY spirit (because they can just pay people to do simple stuff for them). Just imagine if someone posted a For Sale thread here offering to run your datalogs thorugh MLV and email you back an updated VE table for the low price of $100. Crazy to us, normal to others.

The reason its good to learn it yourself is because you then know exactly WHAT makes what changes and WHY some settings are the way they are.

But I agree on comparing maps to others: helps a ton cause then you can see the differences between another persons well running map and yours, and know where to start searching on WHY their settings are different and adjust yours accordingly.

This is completely true and VERY popular among others, except the pricing is EVEN higher than you posted.
Right now an email tune from a popular tuner will run you a MINIMUM 350 and it goes up from there.
Anyone still doing it for 100 is either a really nice/generous tuner or a crappy t00ner who is experimenting on others cars.

I think what your seeing is those with money who don't care but mixed in are those who care but are getting lost in the Mega Manual.
I know I felt that way esp after 2 years ago before Tuner Studio when auto tune meant running a data log through a program I still have saved I have too look which later became part of tuner studio and then going out again into the MS world but with MS2 only to have everything different now with Tuner Studio being the norm and MS2 being different in enough spots that I was really frustrated.

I tried everything and I didn't mind throwing someone 20-40 for a little help but no on really jumped in most were just confused which discouraged me even further.

For me having someone here with me to show me or send me tunes that I can compare and answering questions just works better for me then trying to go back through the manual.. I don't seem to grasp things as quickly.
So either some of us are just completely strange and work better hands on or were just plan nuts... I could very well be nuts...

I know I like the community here and the idea behind sharing with MS but there seems to be a trend towards just telling people;
"Go read this portion of the manual, or the whole manual"
and as I keep saying, some just have a hard time going through the manual when visual and hands on works a hundred times better esp coming from having some experience with it but being lost in all the changes now.

Well, the work done for me went far beyond just running VE analyzer I know how to do that ( I think )

There is a market for everything that people are not willing or able to do themselves regardless of what the initial intentions where. I wanted to learn this stuff up to a point but I also want to drive the car and enjoy it so it was a no brainer for me. wish I'd done it sooner.

I did approach pro tuners but found their prices prohibitive. If I could afford it I could not see the "value" in it and found the tuners that I contacted to come off as Smug

I don't think that tunes work when you go from one car to another. they do up to a point but not very well. Don't ask how I know

The point of you sharing is so we can see the DIFFERENCES made to the map which civilized your car and made it much more enjoyable.

And he's right you should definitely share the maps, don't hold out like a tease.
