Default 2.2 vs. 3.0

i have noticed most of you are running 3.0. is there a reason, like the 2.2 wont work with the coils or something? i used to run the 2.2 when i had my probe (3.0 wasnt out yet) and wasn't hardly useing any of the features. just wondering.

3.xx has built in flyback and doesn't require the relay board.

functionallity wise they're identical.

The v3 board gives you a few more options, can run low ohm injectors, more upgrade paths, heavily documented.....

For the record, either version can be used with or without the relay board.

The V3.0 adds a VR sensor input (not really needed on the Miatas), the flyback board, and beefed up protection against noise and voltage spikes.

I asked this same question before I bought my MS kit, and went with the 3.0. Not because its better then the 2.2 but because if I ever have problems with it there is more support available. I recommend you think about that when deciding if the price difference is worth it.

I was reading some of the info around, and saw two interesting things:
1) Are there any decent individual COP set ups, instead of banked? It sure seems like a waste of spark energy to fire every plug twice as often. I see V-8 wasted spark set ups, couldn't you do just 4 cyl that way?
2) Anyone played with the 3.57 board? They claim extra ins-and-outs, but then it sounds like all they really did was add pull up resistors on the three LEDs, something I imagine one could do on the regular V3 board
3) If you were reading close, you'd know there is no question #3. My Bad.

Right now, MS-I does not do individual COP with the stock Miata CAS - it's a limitation of the firmware. You'd need to modify the CAS by soldering one of the slits shut. The MS2/Extra beta 2.0 code supports this. However, don't be too quick to write off wasted spark systems as less powerful; the DSMs use wasted spark and can light off the mixture at well over 30 psi of boost.

The V3.57 board is at the core of the MSPNP units. It has a PWM IAC output as standard equipment, and it's quicker for us to assemble. It depends on whether you're building an ECU or buying one ready made.
