AEM knowledge carry over?
I am currently working up the courage to get the NeoBrainSquirt but I have a couple of questions:
Is anyone familiar with AEM EMS/FICs and MS enough to say how easy it would be for someone extremely experienced with AEM to learn MS? Cody at lovefab.com has offered to help me tune it but I really don't want to be a burden on him. And although I keep reading and playing with the program, I am still not comfortable enough to problem solve my own setup.
Also, my plans would be 460cc injectors and 12psi. Would I really need knocksense with an extremely conservative (dyno/ we actually have one here) tune or could I just turn back timing on hot track days?
I would eliminate my AFM (for simplicity) but I have decided against EBC in a vain attempt to keep the setup as simple as possible. I really don't want max power, and 9psi would be fine with me (with a better tune, of course) but I have to compromise with Cody. Any help is greatly appreciated. I would have done this all sooner, but I am using my little allowance this month for a roll bar.

AEM's fuel map deals in PW and a ton of correction tables... MS uses VE, a bunch of math you don't have to deal with as it's all in the code, and far fewer correction tables. My experience with AEM tuners is they keep looking for correction tables to tune that the MS doesn't need . Other than that the tuning knowledge should cross over fairly well...
You don't need a knock sensor. Tune properly on a load bearing dyno and keep putting the same or better fuel in the car and it will never knock.... If you do put a knock sensor in don't use it when tuning, just use it to tell you if you got some bad gas later after the tune...

Thanks guys. Very helpful.
I still am afraid of EBCs, any connection problems and overboost here we come. Although a sticking MBC overboosted my turbo on my 89 rx7 and split the shaft on it, so I guess your right after all. Screw you.

You would probably be better off searching for someone with Electromotive experience. The MS and the TECs use VE tables and the ideal gas law and the software is superficially similar enough that someone versed in the TEC software will be pretty immediately comfortable with the MS.
If this Cody fella really utilizes the AEM software to full effect than he shouldn't have much trouble getting the MS to do its thing, although if he expects to just do a quick and dirty tune with the wastegate rigged open and plug a few numbers into the software and let boost correct do its magic it ain't gonna happen.

He is very thorough with everything he does. And he never stops working, except to sleep in the house connected to the shop. He wants to get familiar with MS for OBD0 cars, otherwise he would use an FIC, which he helped develop. And he is a really great guy.
Again, thanks for the help, I feel really good about it all now. And EBC really is a no brainer, which is great.
